hello!

@WW - do you plan to update your packs still? I intend to get in some flying hours again and currently I am undecided between sticking with DBW and adding your great packs or switching over to the new patch and HSFX;
personally I would love to stick with DBW though as its easier to add stuff into such an install....

cheers

Well, you can always run both!  I have two separate IL2 installs (two directories under "Ubisoft" directory on my computer).

I have:
1)  "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946" which is 4.101 and contains UP3 and DBW (along with the packs I compiled here)
2)  "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946_stock" which is 4.11.1 and contains HSFX 6.0

Basically, completely separate installs including individual GMEs (installing HSFX creates the second GME automatically).

As a avid DCG flyer, I also have separate DCG installs as well with one pointing to one directory while the other points to the other.

Desktop icons are named accordingly so it is easy for me to fly either as desired.

All in all, I recommend both!

Note, I have not updated the packs for a while as they are quite tight at this time.  Though as campaigner's require new stuff to incorporate into their magic and something needs to be added, at that point, I will update the packs as needed.

Though for now, there is some killer working content in the packs that is quite nice!

Wind,

Among the MODS provided in #DBW_MOD_Effects Pack is a directory called "0_0_PAL-Carriers". Please confirm that this is the most current version of the "Carrier Mod" for DBW 1.7.1. The basis for my question is that the package's list of features references  https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,20102.0.html as the source of the "Carrier Mod" included. On 1 January 2012, western0221 posted Reply #32 at  https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,20339.24.html, where he indicates that the "Carrier Mod (Beta)" at "20102.0" is outdated:

Carrier Take-Off (CTO) MOD

Is that right? Does it matter in what order they load?
That's right.
Only "carrier mod (beta)", 1st post link is old version. Latest version is at last page.
Other MODs are 1st post link is latest.
All the MODs are indipendent and nothing order to load.

I have read the threads at this site on the carrier mod subject since the angle deck carriers were released. It is my understanding that the current carrier mod for DBW 1.7.1 is SAS AI, Engines, Hotkeys & Carriers Mod v2.5, posted by Anto at https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,23327.0.html. However, I could be wrong given I've never been able to get the catapults on the angle deck carriers to work in two different DBW 1.7.1 installs and after numerous attempts.

In any case, I would like to hear your comments.

Cheers,

Hey Riptide,  I believe I have that all in the pack.  I remember seeing the noted threads and accounting for advice when I was prepping those items included in the Effects pack.  However, I have not really spent time with the angled carriers, thus for the functionality, its mainly standard straight deck carriers.

Likely if a campaign design comes forward requiring angled carriers, I will look to update as needed.  Note, for these packs, I plan to synch enhancement based upon new releases of DBW and/or new progressive campaign designs which require modded content not found in stock DBW, or within the scope of these packs thus far.

However, as a framework users can simply add/update content within the packs as needed for their own use.  Nice thing with GME is that if you break something, its easy to turn off the pack to debug.  Completely porked, then copy in the vanilla pack from the original downloads.

Note, the pack set I run for my personal DBW install has evolved a fair amount though nothing new has been added warranting an update to the packs yet.

hello!

thanks for a quick answer too :)
I would love to run dual installs for HSFX and DBW/UP but as my current comp is rather old and long in the toot and soon to be replaced by a current machine, I do not want to spend much more time and space to do multiple installs;
thats why I love your packs :)
what I do want to add though are all the updated visual thingies like the new better pilots, the new wheels, the landing gear damage mod, gurners pack and vpmedias damage textures to name a few;
can I simply throw in the updated files of said packages into the framework provided by your packs?
this would make updating much easier :)

anways a big thank you for providing those packs in the first place :)

thats all you gotta do!

Note, I do have a separate unreleased "Pilots" pack from the original Better Pilots work, but have held on releasing per the past "controversy."  Though, if you want to add in the new pilots which are highly recommended, they could likely be added to perhaps the aircraft pack.

I use gurners too and have his mod in the Effects pack with Plutonum retired.  Though not released yet in the packs, however, you can add in easily within the effects pack.

All in all, yes there is a lot of new content out that enhances the packs beyond what they are now (even if now that are pretty good over vanilla DBW).  I recommend definitely managing the packs as you wish to stay current with the mods out there.  Important thing though is the keep core vanilla DBW clean thus all mod changes go in the packs only.  Of course if you need to rollback for some reason, gme works quite well for that.

have fun, and yea hopefully I can update some of the packs soon (as I currently have a quite current personal DBW install with these packs)!?

Hi Wind,

Are the required SAS WW1 PACKS 1.2 for the World War 1 Rise of Flight WWI campaign by midnabreu included in your aircraft pack?

Hi WindWpn,
I've just tried your MOD_static and I have a question.
In that pack beside the usual "standalone" mods (I mean the ones with their own folders) there is some kind of HUD mod directly into STD subfolder too.
Would you please tell me which mod is that and where could I find?

I've seen the readme file into but either the mod and the modder names are missed there.
My goal is to know if it would be compatible with PALhudConfig mod I've got.

And what about the XTD folder's classfile mod?
Thx in advance.

Hey Charlie,

The mod you are inquiring about is Wingflyers new Flak Towers mod.

See detail at the mod thread.

Hi wind. Long time no see. Hope all is good. Question. Are your packs updated (aircraft one) to deal with Slink's DCG4DBW modded version. Because it seems like he and you have different planes activated and maybe when you use his dcg pack and activate it, it may not mesh right with your airplane pack. Instead of having overload from his pack to yours, I took out planes from his pack and deleted them because you already had them. So there may be a air.ini conflict. Needless to say, my DCG is all sorts of jacked up again and I may have to just go standard because it's the easiest way but I wanna make sure that some of the issues I'm having aren't from you guys mods conflicting. Slink has planes with 411 and Air as a prefix so I dont even know if that may cause it. Hope you can help. Thanks broham.
