It sounds like a sci-fi but...
I left westfront after last post and today I found some details on the same issue here:

So in my next step your greatfull westfornt campaign has been downloaded again, than I've changed letters "Š" to number 9 in accordance with this post:

My problem with unpleasant "beep" signal solved!
I had to reinstall my computer system.
After that I installed the game and the Boelcke's campaign of course. In the dgen folder I changed all  letters "Š" in the files with "de" in the name, e.g. the "planesDeŠ.dat" I changed on the "planesDe9.dat".
It was helpfull. 
I can fly a "Dora" over Ardennes, finally.

Westfront is functional (first part of campaign working so fine for me!) so now I'm sitting in E1 and trying to shoot down some Blenheims before they will drop bombs on our airfiled...

ben_wh, on my install it does work 1.71.  I did however make a copy of my 1.6 folder and then install 1.7 and the hotfix, and just continued my campaign.  So far good   BTW I did want to start over as I already had 50+ missions in the campaign.

of course, it has been created for UP 3.0 and DBW and uses the new air.ini from DBW 1.7
