Grey sky for winter.
« on: December 08, 2011, 12:31:46 PM »

Now that winter is almost here, I will like to request a mod to improve the look and feeling of winter maps, in fact is a two mods request, cause I have no idea If second one can be done. Well my request, is having the colour of the sky changed to grey, so it look like a real gloomy winter sky. It was already done before on European Air War and the results were great, just some pics to show you what I'm talking about.

Second mod If is even possbile is erasing the sun, as no sun should be present in winter lol. But this one is optional, with the first one I will be more than happy.

even in winter we should be able of seeing a blue sky and the sun when we fly above the clouds so i dont think changing the sky colour and erasing the sun would make it, at least i dont think this would be the ideal solution. a thick layer of clouds is close to the grey overall atmosphere of winter, maybe a tweak of the cloud layer might do the trick.

You have most of what you are asking for now in the FMB.

IIRC, we can't have that sky without rain.

Any idea if that mod is still available?

Yes Malone is right !

I did some overcast grey sky (plain high alt. clouds) for my winter maps-pack long ago ... it was my very first attempt in map modding  ;)
It was on Moscow map .... but I couldn't prevent the sun from shining  ;D

You may find the same effect if you try to fly (within UP3 RC4) on the "CAN_ChanW" map (Canon beta channel, winter repaint) that I also did.

This effect gives a real winter touch despite it is not perfect: the haze remains blueish and some bad artefacts appear near horizon if you fly high.

But the result is very interesting if you fly low inside very bad weather  ;)
