Ok this probly is the wrong place for this but I gotta ask...

All all these screens from an unmodded game? well outside the obvious pink JU-88 and various skins and photoeffects.

What does it take to run it at those levels of detail? How broken is the game really? are the patches working on correcting the problem?

I'm getting really interwested in getting CloD but swayed away by the "broken" aspect and power requirments. and coments from CWMV (no offense but you seem to a strong oppent to CloD at this time).

Just want to be informed.
Most of my shots here are heavily edited outside the game using Photoshop, Picasa GIMP or all three.  There are some others I've posted here that are not edited at all.  AFAIK there are no "mods" for this game at present as Steam throws a hissy fit when you try to play Online MP.  The only "add on" I use is SweetFX which does a great job of improving visitbility in game and gets better Anti Aliasing than stock which is broken.

Despite the naysayers, the game is very playable in MP and there is a relatively strong community of online MP servers but the game is less satisfying in SP due to the lack of SP campaigns and some borked AI routines.  Something that has been identified is that by using smaller formations 3 units max (You then have to build up multiples of these 3 unit flights to get a biggish fight), changes the way that the AI flys as units in combat.  But they do sometimes go back to flying straight and level when they's decided they've had enough.

In terms of SP campaigns have a look at the Desastersoft Wick Vs Dundas add on and see what you think: http://www.desastersoft.com/en/product-wick-dundas.html

The biggest factor in being able to run the game is videocard and RAM.  The more RAM you have the better it performs and the more VRAM your video card has the better.  I've got a 1.5GB GTX580 running with 16GB of RAM and an I7 2600 no over clocking and it runs max detail even in highly populated (70+ players), online servers.

You need to have the latest patched version of the game for it to run and TBH once that patch came in the game actually became a pleasure for me.

Knowing that the game is now no longer under development with the current engine means that either it will die a death once BoS comes out or it will get modded and potentially improved beyond where it is now.  (I'm not holding my breath for either outcome and am just enjoying it for what it is now.

Get it cheap, get it patched and try it out.  If it don't work for you then kick it to the trash can and wait for BoS.

Shot straight out of the sim, no alterations. ;)

You could really get to love it, buggy it maybe, but it can be gorgeous. 8)

Wishing you all the best, Pete

For me it is really the best of minutes to fly, until it bores me to death. If it had been like IL2 in development I would not look back.

I love just to fly a particular aircraft over the map especially late in the day, looks superb. ;)  My rig can only really do this with everything on medium, if I want to do combat I need to turn some things down, so only do combat if I can actually be bothered to alter the settings. :)

Just shows what could have been though, but IL-2 1946 still rules, old as its lineage may be.

Unfortunately, for anyone with XP most of the links to previous manual patches are now unusable at the 1c forums, but if you have or can upgrade to Windows 7 I would say give it a go, buggy it is, but at the current price of roughly a tenner Sterling on Steam definately worth a look if you can put up with the only DRM solution for this sim.

Bye the way bolox I downloaded the mission you put up for Bravo, hope you don't mind, the taxi behaviour may be a little odd with the aircraft moving back to the hangers before going along their merry way but it is really something to see.  Up to now I've only tried making a mission as per IL-2 where you take off in the time honoured fashion, or as in the screenshot altered an existing mission.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Just because no none else will show you just how beautifull these are, I will. :)

Shame they aren't flyable eh.

I know :'(- I did mention it was somewhat rough :P. It was really just an example to show Bravo the 'spawn parked option. There are other options to play with and combine, for instance add 'idle' to the spawn parked and you have 'statics' with skins/markings- maybe not where you want them tho.
A year into messing about in fmb and I'm still finding 'novel ways to commit suicide'  8)

Hello bolox, at least for creating straight forward missions the builder is very much like IL-2 1946 so is relatively easy, the problem I guess is with using scripts.

From your mission, thanks.

I'm just starting to explore the possibilities, so far I've altered one mission to include a takeoff and set the time for later in the day as well as created a a few straight forward missions to test behaviour of the seaplanes and the Anson. ;)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D
