Aha, I did not know there was a cartoon hero modeled after Lydia Litvak. I wanted to say: "Oh, those Americans again:)" But I should have said "Oh, those Frenchmen again:)" :)))

Belgians and French are the world's top class illustrators when it comes to comic book art. They haven't created any superheroes, but they do all other forms superbly, especially historical stories.

Aside from this 3 part series on Lilya Litvasky, Yann has an upcoming album set during the Great War with another aviation inspired story. From the previews it looks to be as colorfully illustrated as the 3 Lilya albums. They are well worth it and are available in French, Dutch and Spanish so far as I know. Why there are no American publishers for something of this quality has always been beyond me ... maybe the superhero thing?

You are right ! "Le Grand Duc" is one of my favourite comic book ! I really love the drawings of Romain Hugault, which is also a very nice and sympathic guy.

I know he is on a new project. I do not really know about it, but I think it is WW1 based.

Thanks Gerax, to give the links for downloading these superb Russian planes pictures ! I really love Red Stars Birds !

Painting by a German "PK" (war reporter):

The text is:
Quote
Sowjetrussischer Flugplatz ... diese Maschinen sind von einer einzigen Stukabombe zerstört ... nächsten Tag starten von hier schon unsere Flugzeuge

Quote
Sovietrussian airfield .. this planes are destroyed by a single Stuka bomb ... on the very next day our planes starts from here

That's a water colour by Hans Liska.
He is one of the exceptions of WWII war art I appreciate.

Some more examples of his work here:
