Info about Brazilian NAe Sao Paulo A12 carrier
« on: January 31, 2012, 02:38:15 AM »

Now I want more information about Brazilian NAe Sao Paulo A12 carrier.
http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/NAe_S%C3%A3o_Paulo_(A-12)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazilian_aircraft_carrier_S%C3%A3o_Paulo_(A12)

Brazil bought NAe Sao Paulo from France at 2000 , her old name was Foch R99.
http://www.aircraftcarrier.name/france/foch/index.html

When Foch was sold, she had these armaments.
  • 1x 100mm Mle.64(or53) cannon : 4unis
  • Crotale EDIR 8x SAM launcher : 2 units
  • Sadral 6x Mistral SAM launcher : 2units
  • 1x BrowningM2 12.7mm gun : 5
So, at 2000, Sao Paulo had the same armaments, I think.

But I search photos of Sao Paulo in Google, no photo shows me where 100mm cannons or Crotale EDIR, Sadral.
In http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/NAe_S%C3%A3o_Paulo_(A-12) , Sao Paulo was modernized at 2010.
Then Sao Paulo has Simbad 2x Mistral SAM launcher : 3 units , it says.
Did 100mm and Crotale, Sadral retire at 2010?
Or... probabry... they retired till 2000, when Brazil bought her at first. Then 3 months modernize was done in France.

Someone knows about Sao Paulo in detail.... please give me.

Western

Try Google Earth, she is tied up at Rio de Janeiro Naval Base and you can zoom in close to see what is on the gun decks.  I can't make out which weapon is which but it might help you.

Sorry, just noticed that image is 2009, so not up to date.

Try this link:http://www.alide.com.br/artigos/docagemSP/index.htm

OK!
I look at Google Earth.

2 launchers (Read marked) are seen.
I think they are Sadral 6x Mistral SAM launchers.

No 100mm cannons and Crotale launchers are seen.
This photo is 2009's.
Umm...

One more, about Hull number painting.
Sao Paulo is painted her Hull number "A12" on Hull's front sides. This is clear.
My question is Bridge's sides (Like French time).
Some photos show Bridge's sides "A12" painted, but other some photos show nothing painted.
Which do I do?

I think the number is painted on both the hull and the island, the link I sent you shows it on both.

I can't read Português and I use machine-translation to read Português sites about Sao Paulo.
But useful information is less...

Only 1 site writes "Sao Paulo had Umkhonto-IR made by Denel Aerospace Systems in South Africa from 2000 to 2010".
Is this page reliable or not...? I can't decide.
Brazilian Navy doesn't have Umkhonto SAM on any destroyers or frigates.
And Umkhonto is basis VLS, not launcher.

BTW...
I can make 2 versions of Sao Paulo at year 2001 and 2011.
2011 is painted numbers at sides of island, 2001 is nothing painted at islands.
