In the instructions to install is written to start the selector at least once and save your settings...

Sorry. I did read this in the install instructions but understood it to mean to click on the existing Il-2 desk icon then choose the settings in the window menu (Change Settings - Game Type - Dark Blue World, RAM usage, etc.) which I did. Having assumed I did the right thing, it never occurred to me that I had misunderstood this step and that by doing so, I would somehow lose the keyboard letter function only.

Please, where to get Il-2 Selector 2.2.2  ?

Uzin, you can extract the selector from the 1.7 download.

The files you need are the Bin folder, and the two files IL-2 Selector.exe and il2fb.ini

copy them to your install, and run the selector once, change setting and save them. That will establish the selector in your install, and from there you can use the newly created il2fb.exe, or the selector , to launch your game.

Also in the SAS Modact 3 Documentation folder of 1.7, there is a pdf guide for the selector.

Roger,
but this is just that selector which caused error , as I mentioned in one above post here.

EDIT:
I am running 1.7 well, without that selector at all, with il2fb.exe from 1.6.

OK, latest report:  Everything fine (still). Enabled all mods that interest me for this setup (Hawk 75A2-4, P24, Ba65, B26, new P11c, P61A-B, PWS10, CantZ506, B&Twheelfix, IK3, F8F2, IL4, Pe8, J-Cats Tonys, P40F-L-N, Ki44hidden cutouts, Ro37bis, TBD1). Obviously, the fewer slots arrangement provides space for expansion. Geardamagemod is still off as I already mentioned. The only snag is that I can't get to work most of my maps in QMB (they work fine in FMB, or QMBPro)...

I don't think that it was written in the instructions that you have to enable track ir classfiles to make it work...so I see myself in the 1% who's problems is not related to not reading  ;D
*proud*  :P

I dont have this problem at all which is very strange, Im assuming that youve tried minimum ram settings on the selector? start off with maybe 256mb or less

Uzin, when you use the new 2.2.2 selector that comes with DBW 1.7, did you choose to run the "IL-2 Selector" instead of "il2fb.exe" and set up the appropriate game selection? If you did everything correctly can you post your log please?

(The extended log that you get using this mod: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,19308.msg207722.html#msg207722)

Dont mind me if im sounding patronising, just dont know what youve tried yet

Yes, of course, followed strictly the Quick install guide.
If you did everything correctly can you post your log please?

I am glad that you devote your time to my problem, of course.
As for log, I shall send it a bit later.

Quote
try this: go to your game folder, to the "bin" folder, and delete the "selector" folder there. in your main game folder, delete the il2fb.exe
DINPUT.dll
il2fb.ini
wrapper.dll

then go to the download. Copy the Bin folder, and the IL-2 Selector.exe and il2fb.ini to your main game folder.

Then launch the IL-2 Selector.exe

go the "change settings", and select "Stock Game" (if it is already selected, select it again), with 128MB ram. Clik "Save Setting"

Then select Dark Blue World. also with 128 MB ram, and again Save Setting.

Then, exit the selector.

You will now find it created a new il2fb.exe in your main game folder. Clcik on that to launch the game. See if it works.

All other stuff regarding selector also still counts, like not having the game in your program files folder, ect.

Thanks for the reply, Cirx.  Did exactly as you described, still no joy.  I double click il2fb.exe and I get the hourglass for about three seconds, then nothing.  After reading your post, I did remember that I had Carsmaster's beta for larger textures, which involved changing some dll's.  Dunno if this would have an effect... I reverted back to stock dll's and still not getting anything.

Man, this is like having a brand new Ferrari in your garage.  But when you put the key in the ignition (or press starter button?  never sat in a Ferrari before :P) and turn it, the motor doesn't turn over!

Ok this may sound like a slightly dumb question but I'll ask anyway:

Can something bad happen (not work) if I use a modified Technics.ini from 1.6 in 1.7?

I was previously using Wflyr New Armor mod and so far it seems to work fine in 1.7 with the old Technics.ini, but is it possible that I'm just not seeing a compatibility problem that i will encounter in the future because it only happens with certain objects that are different in 1.7?
