A few questions.
In my IL2 root folder I have.

IL-2 Selector.exe - comes with new DBW 1.71
il2fb.exe - Previous launcher for DBW 1.6
il2fb_Stock.exe - Have do idea whether it I left copy of original exe just to be safe or it was left by DBW

Now the question what do I do with il2fb.exe.
Should I delete it and replace with original il2fb.exe, should I left it and what to do with hyperlobby after all is linked to il2fb.exe and not to the new selector.

I recommend to read the IL-2 Selector Manual which can be found in the "Documentation\SAS Modact and DBW" folder of your DBW 1.71 installation.
Especially chapter 1 (installation) and chapter 2 (operation) might be interesting.

The short story is that with the new Selector shipping with DBW 1.71 (Selector v2.2.2.2) the "IL-2 Selector.exe" is used solely to change settings and apply them while the "il2fb.exe" runs your game with those settings.
The "il2fb_Stock.exe" is some leftover of another (manual?) operation you've done before, you can simply delete that file.
All you have to do is to run the "IL-2 Selector.exe" at least once and safe your settings. You can run it again whenever you want to change your settings.
When you just want to start your game, run il2fb.exe.

When you just want to start your game, run il2fb.exe.
See, when ever I run il2fb.exe it wouldn't start a game, Selector from previous DBW would popup instead.
Apparently if you delete il2fb.exe then when you run selector 2.2 a new il2fb.exe would be created and this new file would work as described by you.

You don't need to delete il2fb.exe, just run the selector and save settings, this will create the appropriate il2fb.exe for you.
If you have intermittent situations where il2fb.exe runs the selector instead launching the game, this means for sure that you manually updated some previously modded installation, presumably an UP3 one, and forgot to strip the selector from the UP3 JSGME folder. If you forget to strip the selector from your JSGME folders, each time you enable a corresponding mod, the il2fb.exe file would be overwritten by some outdated selector version.
That's why the "DBW 1.6 to DBW 1.7 Update" installation instructions tell you to remove any selector from the JSGME folders.

run IL-2 selector.exe. do not start the game through IL-2 selector. instructions:
1. start IL-2 selector
2. go to "change settings"
3. where it says "game type" select dark blue world
4. click on "save settings"
5. click on "start IL-2 now"
6. YAY

I noticed several messages in my DBW 1.7.1 log file that seem suggest some problem with my install. I have uploaded this log file at http://www.sendspace.com/file/tw16ev.

The specific messages of concern are listed below:

While I had some problems with 1.7.1 install initially, I got advice from other SAS members that helped me fix them. However, I believe that the log file messages above suggest there remain some problems to address.

In playing the game, the only problem that I am aware of is that the carrier catapult crashes the game. As soon as a plane taxis up to the catapult, the screen freezes. When I tap the right key on the mouse, the screen returns to desktop with a window acknowledging the game's unexpected shutdown. According to western0221, this is a known bug in DBW 1.7.1 and will not fixed until DBW 1.7.2 is released (see https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,20102.msg237830.html#msg237830, Post #120).

I would appreciate any useful comments on the messages in the subject log file.

Cheers,

download this to fix catapult:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,23327.0.html
simply put it in your mod folder.
an early version of this was included in DBW 1.71 so jetwar 1.2 would work, but that version had a small bug. this latest version fixes it.

Boomer, Mojojojo,

Thanks for your comments.

I copied 00000_SAS_AI_Engine_HotKeys_Carriers to my \#DBW directory. As a result, the game will not load. I don't even get a splash screen. So, if this fix is working for everyone else, it seems that my 1.7.1 install has a problem somewhere.

is your game in program files or program files (x86)?

mojojojo,

Are you asking whether or not my DBW install is in my C:\Program Files\ directory? If so, the answer is no. My game is on my D: drive.

it doesn't matter what drive. only matters if it is in program files or program files (x86)
