Definitely will add realism.  I had made a post earlier where I wondered if the "Helmet" options could be controlled by the mission date trigger, like we have with Carrier catapults and steam power.  Not sure if it's doable or not, but would solve problems with files.  Pre 50's would have leather helmets, 50's would have the football style with goggles, and 60's and up would have the visors and G'suits, all controlled by hard coding of the plane or mission date.

Barnesy, is there a way I can also include/duplicate that file for the F-51?

Well crap, I tried you initial mod and it does not work in UP3 or DBW.............

My Cranial Rectimitus could of kicked in and I put it in UP3, will have to try DBW............ i tried some effects package and it crashed UP3, put it in DBW and it worked.  Trial and error, trial and error..

Thanks Barnesy!

There is another problem with helmets, at least the Phantom and the MiG-19s.  When you bail out, suddenly the helmet disappears (? gets ripped off your head due to the wind?  :D)  and you are in your parachute with a 1940's version of a helmet (cloth/leather) ..... I imagine that in the parachute, the helmet is part of the pilot TGA files, and in plane, it is part of the plane files.  ?  Does that make sense?  I would guess this is going to get complicated very quickly.

The helmet disappearing on ejection has been there from the beginning of the jet age, even when the first Sabre came out. No one has been able to fix it......yet.

And what about the helmets for the F51 pilots? seems that the tease of the pics was never released. Maybe someone else can give it a go?

Yea, don't need 'em for all of the Mustangs but would be perfect for the F-51 and the A-1 Skyraiders as well. Great idea. Sure hope it's workable.

I have a number of "pilots skins" that I can put in any era airplane.

I got chewed out once by my squadron leader for showing up for a ceremony in our P-51s with a "hard hat" on.

Some examples.

Are those Mustang pilots, in helmets, available now, somewhere?
