mig 21 opponent
« on: February 05, 2012, 03:10:49 PM »

i have seen a lot of people talking about an enemy for the mig 21 WIP. so far the mirage and F-5 are the main ones people are considering. i made this thread so people don't talk about this in other threads.

p.s. i think the F-5 is more appropriate because it and the mig 21 are designed by the standard of the lightw8 fighter concept and were made mainly for export

The phantom is the only reasonable choice. For the majority of the cold war it was mugs facing phantoms across the iron curtain, and in the various wars fought.
Doesn't mean I'm going to ask the modders to make one.

After seeing the professionalism involved in the 1956 series, I'd kill to see that Phantom fully operational in IL-2.

Oh it would be.
The only thing I'm slightly ashamed of are the things I would do to get an F-4 to the AMT's standards.

Thread derailment ahead...
*puts on gloves*
dont. say. a. word. Idontwanttoknow...

something to challenge the Mig-21, i could also seee the F-100.
as the F100 was to ne the new F-86, and the Mig-21 was to be the new Mig-15-17...?
But that era is nto really my timeframe, i might be wrong.

The F-100 is really more in the league of the Mig-19, too slow to compete with a Mig-21. As said in previous threads, the F-5, Mirage III or F-4 would be good opponents. All have met the Mig-21 in combat too.

On one hand: for onliners F-5 would be the best bc of almostn exactly the same performance.it was even used as a substitute for fishbed in top gun school.

However for us, offliners, as CWMV said, Phantom is better bc it's a material for more historical missions
