true instorically opponents are:

F-8 Crusader and F-4 Phantom in Vietnam

Mirage III (and again F-4) in the middle east,

F-86F40 (armed with aim9) and F-104C in Pakinstani/India conflicts

rarely F-100 (as fighter), the bombers F-100 were a target for Mig21 in Vietnam, F-105 the same

just because the F-5 never fought the mig it doesnt mean it isnt its rival. it was the allied equivillant of the mig

The F-5 did fight the MiG-21...
Iran vs Iraq, Ethiopia vs Somalia
I just happen to like the idea of an F-4 and MiG-21 duking it out cause it'd keep things interesting.

Have to disagree bro. I mean as far as performance goes sure, they are damn close.
In reality however the Phantom is the western equivalent to the Mig in terms of deployment. Two very different fighters but they were each their sides primary fighter aircraft, and operated in larger numbers than any other front line fighter for their respective sides.
They had migs pointing at Eurpoe, and we had Phantoms pointing right back. The F-5's were what the Phantom drivers trained against.
Now if you want to model some secondary/third world conflict then sure, the F-5 would be perfect. And Ive got nothing against the F-5, but it wasn't ever the single mainstay fighter of the west against the forces of evil, as the phantom was.

its not like we have to chose. im pretty sure rawners is making a phantom and the av8er team is thinking about making an F-5 after they finish the mig. i also remember hearing about someone making a mirage
when 1956 v1.2 comes out i hav a feeling we will be seeing more and more supersonic jets

It did always amaze me that the USAF issued the competition for the F-16, a lightweight, fair-weather dogfighter, when the F-5 was already in service... :-\

Great little bird.
