After several days of effort and a great stretch in my skills, DAF works! It looks good. However, I do have a problem. The game's JSGME folder has everything, but when I use the JSGME.exe to activate the various mods, none show in the .exe window but those for the *.inis I had to download and install separately to use with DAF. Since I don't see any other reference to this problem, I may have put some things in the wrong place, but the campaign works.
Those extra downloads ended up in the #DBW folder. I also have put in the JSGME folder and disabled the same ones in the #DBW and got the dreaded 70% CTD. They're in both places now without seeming to cause a problem. Conf.ini has been changed to 1920/1080, but Ecran wide doesn't show, or work, 6DOf doesn't, etc.
I've searched SAS but couldn't find anything that looked helpful. I've spent most of the day messing around with the problem (that's about my skill level) without any solution. Is there anyone who can help?

Never mind, I solved it.
1. I'd forgotten to make myself Administrator for the IL-2.exe. That solved the 6DOF.
2. I went into thejsgme folder to the Ecran folder/#DBW/ Ecran, back to the main game and posted it into #DBW.
I've had similar problems before that worked out the same way. One day, I'll remember before I asked. All work well now.

Great Campaign, have only made it back to base twice in ten missions....   I'm having a problem starting in mission 11.  It appears that the L5 Sentinel is broken in DBW 1.71.  I get the 'sky' screen and no cockpit.  I've tried it in FMB and it doesn't show up there either.  I've looked at the 'STD' files and it exists in those so I'm at the limit of how I know to check.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

pied,

Just tested this mission - its useful to have the set as single missions - its fine.

This is what I often refer to as a 'First Principles' scenario.  A missing cockpit has to indicate an improperly installed aircraft or mod conflict.

First Principles:

1-Backup all original DBW downloads to a seperate disc or portable drive.
2-Build the latest DBW (1.71) and test without anything else added.
3-Backup this Vanilla Install on the Portable Drive for rebuilds where necessary.

With all of the mods for DAF now in the JSGME pack, you should be able to test it from scatch, with no other mods in place.  If you are still getting errors, then the install itself is faulty.

Its a 'black art' mate, I had all of my mods installed seperately and, to help you guys out, went for the JSGME option so we are all doing the same thing. - Killed my install!!  Who's fault?  Mine, I overlooked something. - Started again with Vanilla DBW, then JSGME stuff, its all good again.

You have overlooked something, and may never know what it was, I certainly don't.  So, back up and start from the beginning.  This is what coffee, quite Sundays and an understanding wife are for!

I not having any problems. Took my Sentinel up and vectored the battle wagons gun on a whole encampment of 88s and tanks. Also flew the wounded out in my trusty C-47. Having a great time outstanding campaign. Only thing i wish the dang Luftwaffe pilots were not all Aces. Some screen shots.

Well, I tried it with the 'Vanilla' install, ie no mods activated and still no go...  Since the L5 files are inside one of the .sfs files, and the download here is no longer active I guess I'll just bypass those missions.

Thanks for the suggestions however!

WWHappy,

Well done mate, and yes, pretty much all of the Fliegerkorps aircraft are veteran level, with a few aces.  The DAF are mostly veterans.  This makes it very tough and usually only the human pilot can maintain the balance and effect the outcome positively.  It seems that the SAS pilots do respond to a challenge though.

Glad you like the DC3 mission, even more amazed someone did it!  You really captured CY6s Arty Mod in action there too, loads of big explosions over a wide area.  You will see that a lot more of that over El Alamein, it was described as more like a First World War battle on the ground...

I spent about 12 hours writing, testing and making the intro vid for that one mission.  The trick was to make it possible if you get a move on, but guarantee you will be blown up on the deck if you are too slow, or unlucky.  Waiting for those engines to turn over while the vehicles next to you are blown sky high...well I bite my nails anyway...

You are obviously reading the briefings too.  Sometimes there is a lot to take in, plus the historic context and tactical situation.  The way I approach it is that if I were putting my arse on the line, give me all the information you have before I go.  I really hate briefings that don't mention the date, weather, time, location, sitrep, objectives, potential threats etc, and just say: 'go hit this bridge' or whatever.  A real pilot is not going to strap in for just two lines...

are you saying you can't fly the Sentinel on QMB from a vanilla install of Dark Blue World 1.71?  Something wrong there mate, and if you don't know what is wrong now then you don't what else might be wrong later.  You don't need the download of the original aircraft to somehow patch it up either.  Wrong approach, if I may say so.  DBW does work, all the planes, effects and objects. (barring a few tiny details that get ironed out in time and don't effect much at this point)

Honestly, think of it as a spring clean, get your Il2 discs out and go for it again.  There is a thread around here about making multiple installs and plenty of other advice.  Back it all up.  Its perfectly safe, as long as this site is here and continues to support this work, no worries!  Ignoring a problem or just patching it up, or going past it is just, bodging!

Thanks for the great campaign Monty. Love it so far. Tough as a DAF pilot as WWHappy says, though I did manage 8 kills (had to bail out a few times myself though!). Don't think I survived a Hurricane IID mission unscathed. Finally graduated to a P40, so hopefully a bit more of an even(ish) contest.

Which reminds me, the P40 is missing the horizontal indicator in the artificial horizon. I seem to remember I had this problem previously due to a conflict of some kind with the open cockpit mod, and I fixed it by deleting that mod. Rather have a functioning artificial horizon than an open cockpit. Now that everything is amalgamated into the superpacks, I don't know how to delete the open cockpit component. Anybody have any ideas?

I appreciate the briefings, they really do add to the campaign. Just a quick hands up on Briefing #11 , there were no Australian divisions involved in the Gazala and Tobruk 1942 battles (the Aust 9th division was in the famous 9 month 1941 siege, and spent the first half of 1942 in Palestine and Syria until rushed to the Alamein front line in late June 1942 - my father was one of them). Tobruk in June 1942 was held mainly by the 1st South African division together with some British and Indian units under Gen Klopper, who surrendered after less than 2 days fighting , much to the chagrin of the original 1941 defenders - and Churchill.

Veggie,

P40-ADI:
This functions well enough for me, it looks a little basic but it works.  The horizontal bar remains fixed, but the pipper on the rim moves in relation to it  This does look very like the real 1940 Sperry ADI to me, next to the screenie.

BRIEFING MISSION 11:
I'm have uploaded the amendment to the Mission 11 Briefing into the Patch so that it is enhanced for anyone who subsequently dowloads Part-Four.  It doesn't effect the mission in any other way.

1942-The Desert Air Force
DOWNLOAD PART FOUR - THE PATCH!
https://www.mediafire.com/?4eyy8ep68q8quag

Nice bit of polishing - the patch includes a revised manual with extra credits for these additions, check the last page.

As any campaign of this nature is restricted to our pilot's POV, rather than a complete re-creation of the entire theatre, the briefing must keep the show on the road and direct our attention to a particular area.  So anything that helps there is good, thanks for the extra details there mate.

Likewise WWHappy, check out the patch.  By running through the entire campaign and posting screenies as you go, you illustrate the whole thing working.  It blows my mind that we can share stuff like this!

Thanks again guys
