Fi-156 artillery spotter
« on: February 24, 2012, 03:34:41 AM »

Because Luftwaffe have not artillery spotter plane in IL-2 it would be nice to use Fieseler Storch for that way.

I think that it can use L-5 weapons for using artillery.

So is anyone interested to do that for us

I agree that the Storch should have these characteristics.
My suggestion is that whoever accepts this idea has a look at what aircraft are out there from all nations that served this function , and to make an inclusive mod , so the work does not have to be repeated.
The Stinson currently has skins as an Auster hack , so the RAF is covered.
Certainly the FW 189 and the U2/Po2 were used this way historically.
I'm sure others will have suggestions for other nations.
It would make sense that this could also be applied for ship to ship gunnery adjustment, and so opens the possibility for the Swordfish , the PBYs , the MBR , the AR 196 , and perhaps the B5N.

Sincerely ,

i would go further.
while the L-5 arty spotter has awesome firepower, i heard that twin-seat Hurricane observatiion plane  can call in airstrikes. (see that thread, i think in airplanes/UK singles)

Having a fiesler call in a bunch of stukas or a HS 123... would that not be cool?

I was thiniking the same yesterday night, while playing... reprocducing this ability on such planes as the Fi156, FW189 , Ro.37, The Stinson, U2/Po2,  i think even the Bucker Bestmann can be used for it :)

I would love to see this designed as an inclusive mod  (ie generic spotter plane characteristics) - but within historically accurate parameters.
What I am getting at is an inquiry really. It is in my mind that most aircraft used for such purposes were at least crewed by two - pilot and observer.
If anyone has historical information on how this actually worked circa WW2 , it would be helpful info for the development of this thread.
