Alternate Paint Schemes
« on: March 13, 2012, 11:11:42 AM »

Just thinking about alternate paint schemes for aircraft and how to do it, and I was thinking for the Bf-109 what would be a paint scheme for the Weimar Republic. And no, I am not a member to an alternate history site. Exactly how would you do the paint scheme for a Weimar Republic Bf-109.

As per the Treaty of Versailles, the Weimar Republic was not allowed an air force. Thus, this is highly speculative. If there would have been a German air force at that time, perhaps their paint schemes would have been developed out of late WW I patterns?

I would imagine it would go the same way as other interwar airforces - non camo schemes but with a sort of 'brand'. Eg the RAF with whitish-grey, small splashes of colour to denote units etc. Or the USAAF - bright blue and yellow. Obviously these are not the only schemes, and I suspect I make huge exaggerations.

On the issue of roundels, I'd imagine they'd remain the same, a la the modern luftwaffe (is it still called that?), which still sports the ww1 style maltese cross.

Makes sense to me, Moggy. Nowadays, it's referred to as "Bundesluftwaffe," i. e. "Federal Air Force."

I am Jewish, I write a lot, and speculating about a German Civil War due to the Reichstag Fire, the Luftwaffe is formed for National Defense by President Hindenburg, and then well, I need to find a template for the Bf-109B-1 for the DBW...

Civil war was more likely to take place in the immediate aftermath of ww1, with the Freikorps and all the strife and turmoil that followed, leastways, I always thought.

Honestly, post-WWI, and assuming that the person who committed the Reichstag fire was connected to the NSDAP, that would have been the most likely event of a civil war.

Hmmm... On the other hand, with the immediate aftermath of ww1, you saw the massive economic depression coupled with the dissolusion at the regime, the starvation thanks to the blockade, the 'flu, the vast numbers of squaddies coming back to the front to a nation which struggled to make a 'nation fit for heroes' far more than post ww1 britain...

Why not? Just cos Messerschmitt was a Nazi, I can't see him refusing to build airy planes because the dear leader's moustache was too voluminous or something...
