Until DBW puts them back in - the way they were historically - I'll have to get my Flying Tigers action elsewhere,

extract the cockpits/gunsites from the SFS Files,
and then run them in your DBW folder
so you can have your cockpit and gunsite back

simple....

I don't have the first clue how to do that... I'm not mod literate.  :(

unfortunately, being 'mod iliterate' doesn't really cut it around here, as all the necessary info and tools are readily available in the forum, but it does require that members do the reading up on this, as no-one has the time to explain every step of everything, repeatedly.
we've tried our best to make it easier for our members, but there's only so much we can do - some input from the user's side is required, even if it's just reading up on how the tools work.
check out the sfs tool, it's really simple to use, and then when you have all the extracted files, you'll find it's really easy to see how the game file-structure works, and how easy it is to do your own modifications. ;)
in this case, once the contents of the sfs files are extracted, you simply find the 3do folder for these planes, take those files and place them in your Mods folder, sticking to the correct file structure. the game will then read those files before the other modded ones, and you should have the other gunsights back.
you say you built the original cockpits - then it should be plain sailing for you. :D

i'm no programmer, either, mate, lol....i dabble a bit with textures, that's really about it.
my 3d knowledge is limited to hier editing, lol.
once you've tried the sfs extractor, chances are you'll be smiling at how easy it can be to access most of the files for modification, especially textures and so on....;)

I am someone who has searched hours for answers in these forums, spent hours pulling my hair out trying to fix or alter something in the sim - and eventually having to reload and repatch the game from scratch after screwing it up so bad . . . all because I was afraid to ask for help.

And when I did, someone ( usually with 5 lines or less) fixed what I had been struggling for days with.

I admit there is alot of useless posts on this forum . . . what do you look like (who cares?) - guess what I read on the news today (who cares)

This morning I went through 4 pages of useless (to me) posts and found one that I was interested in (this one)

I too was unable to play the Flying Tigers campaign due to the ring and bead sight (unplayable with 6dof) and also was curious how to change it without screwing up my install completely . . . and I'm sure there are many more other people that would like to know as well (far more than care what I look like!)

you're right, tanda, we are here to help, and don't worry, the vast majority of members are 'silent' and don't really post, but hopefully they find the info they are looking for.
also, as an admin, i realise there are many irrelevant posts, but hopefully they are kept to the lounge, which is really just a place for general chatting, and (we hope) helps to maintain a friendly atmosphere.
as for being scared to ask, in case someone (often me, i guess  :P) bites their head off, lol.
but we really have tried to make it pretty simple, with as few 'rules' as possible.
if a member just takes the effort to read the few sticky posts at the top of each section, then it's really hard to go wrong.

Hrmm... I've extracted the P-40B, P-40C, and Hawk (assuming that's the Hawk H81-A2) cockpits to the correct file structure in the Mods folder.... no dice.  I've enabled the Mods file cache in the IL-2 selector for UP3 / DBW / SAS Modact...  still nothing...

i also had difficulty with extracting the right files, luckily i managed to dig them out from an old modded install.
just plonk the folder into your Mods(#DBW) folder, and you should be good to go, mate.  ;)

Got it working.  Thank you guys!

Hopefully in the next release of DBW the historically accurate gunsights can be restored to the default pack, with the secondary iron sights position like there is in (I believe) the A6Ms.  I LIKE the addition of the iron sights, just not having them to the exclusion of the reflex sights.

Malone, thank you for pointing me to the 'early P40 cockpit'.

I had the same ring-and-bead problem. I 'solved' it by choosing in Pablo's MissionProCombo another P40 at mission-start, the Tomahawk IIb.

Yours is a more elegant solution. Thanks!

DBW 1.71, now even more heavily modded.

yes, pierre, i still need it, and also part 5 of the campaign download.
i have pm'd Monty about it, but am still waiting for him to log in.
it's not urgent, i can wait, and i have other things to keep me busy, but i know that i would like to play this campaign one day when i have the time, lol. :D
