Thanks for that info Juan. According to the ever relaible Wikipedia, the Republicans used the Macchi M 18 to bomb Majorca. The one in DBW 1916 would be a good substitute. I have the d/l links for it. It does work in DBW1.71.  The Walrus would be a credible stand in for the S55. The S62, and Dornier would just have to be alluded to. Unless the WIP Dornier arrives. That bit about landing in resevoirs sounds resourceful. I presume the Nationalists were flying from the eastern most island. Mahon, isn't it?

cheers

David

Actually, Nope. Mahon is in Menorca, which is the only Balearic Island that remained in Republican hands for the whole war. They invaded also Ibiza and the minor islands, but abandoned them soon.
The Savoia S-55X arrived directly from Italy in flight as later did the SM-81 and SM-79. Those first CR-32 arrived in an Italian banner boat which could have been sunk by Republicans, but Italians threatened with an international conflict.  ::)
The Nationalist used as base for their floatplanes the port of Pollença,  in Mallorca Island, along the whole war, both for Legionaria and Legion Condor aircraft. In Agracier's great Balearic Islands map, neither Pollença, nor its port appear; there's also a duplicated Alcudia in the place where Can Picafort should be.

This last is only a name problem, but while Pollença is added to this beautiful map, you can use Alcudia's Bay as base for Nationalist floatplanes.

About the hacks for the planes, I totally agree with using the WWI Macchi by now, (even though I cannot make it work in the regular DBW 1.7, only in 1916)
I only think that such amazing aircraft as Savoia S-55X, with their original and complicated design, double hull, etc. deserve to be in game.

Dornier Wal is also a great plane. Curiously, in this Balearic Campaign, were face to face the two floatplanes with which Spaniards and Italians crossed the Atlantic for the first time: Balbo crossed it with a great fleet of Savoia S-55X, but before, Ramón Franco and his crew did it with the Dornier Wal in solitary.  :)

Thanks Juan. It's good to have that info. I'll see if I can add the WWI flying boat again. The town of Mahon will have to be added. So will Pollenca. There is nothing on the map for either. The airfields are OK. It will be quite some time before this campaign appears. By then, I hope the WIP Do24 arrives. It would be nice to see the S55. I'll probably use the CantZ506, as the 501 cancels out the Walrus/S62. I guess neither side will have much flak. Do you have any links in English for the campaign?

cheers

It is such a wonderfully strange aircraft! Perhaps one day someone will build this one too. Six months ago I wouldn't have thought soo, but now it looks as if the sky is the limit here in modded IL-2...  :D

... but now it looks as if the sky is the limit here in modded IL-2...  :D

Except for the dreaded java limit, the sky is indeed the limit. .... with all the new planes, especially those by DreamK and other 1930's era planes, I think I'm coming up against my java limit again. I can't take screenshots in game without getting a ctd - and that's aways been a good indication there are too many mod planes added - and lately it's even started when I give certain commands, like calling up a map - M - ...

Keep the planes coming by all means ... but there's got to be a way to have them in the game without getting caught up in the java limit thing I hope ... a specific 1936 DBW only perhaps? Without jets, no '45 secret weapons of the Luftwaffe, no hi performance fighters and so on ... ?

I am hoping that we get a DBW_1936 in the same style as the DBW_1916 V1b4 that Vpmedia has just released. That would be absolutely amazing, putting all these fantastic aircraft, maps and objects into one pack - which would hopefully ease the java limit. I know I am getting ahead of myself here but it makes perfect sense if it is possible.

Keep up the good work!! :) :)

Indeed, that IS an important argument for "DBW 1936", as it is also an argument for "DBW Korea", or "DBW 1966" and the likes of them.

A valid idea, Poltava.  I guess the modders involved would have to unpack, and reorganise the SFS files, write new .ini files, and do a dozen other things I can't think of. I'd d/l it in a nanosecond.

Him Dreamk. Did the Republicans use their Potez 540s in the campaign? Did the Nationalists use the SM81?

Operating from palma, the SM-79 and SM-81 bombed so many different targets.

The Potez eventually bombed mallorca (along with the Fokker "Bombers") during May of '37 (one of them, piloted by Jan Ferak, shot down by a Cr-32 on May the 31st and another one claimed by the Flak on the 26th of May, but not confirmed.)

HI, CC_Tofolo.  Thanks for that info. I just finished doing some work on the Balaerics map. I put 'Mahon's port in. It's not exactly a work of art, and won't win any prizes. I added the Nationalist sea-plane base too.

cheers
