Thanks for that info Juan. According to the ever relaible Wikipedia, the Republicans used the Macchi M 18 to bomb Majorca. The one in DBW 1916 would be a good substitute. I have the d/l links for it. It does work in DBW1.71. The Walrus would be a credible stand in for the S55. The S62, and Dornier would just have to be alluded to. Unless the WIP Dornier arrives. That bit about landing in resevoirs sounds resourceful. I presume the Nationalists were flying from the eastern most island. Mahon, isn't it?
cheers
David
Actually, Nope. Mahon is in Menorca, which is the only Balearic Island that remained in Republican hands for the whole war. They invaded also Ibiza and the minor islands, but abandoned them soon.
The Savoia S-55X arrived directly from Italy in flight as later did the SM-81 and SM-79. Those first CR-32 arrived in an Italian banner boat which could have been sunk by Republicans, but Italians threatened with an international conflict.
The Nationalist used as base for their floatplanes the port of Pollença, in Mallorca Island, along the whole war, both for Legionaria and Legion Condor aircraft. In Agracier's great Balearic Islands map, neither Pollença, nor its port appear; there's also a duplicated Alcudia in the place where Can Picafort should be.
This last is only a name problem, but while Pollença is added to this beautiful map, you can use Alcudia's Bay as base for Nationalist floatplanes.
About the hacks for the planes, I totally agree with using the WWI Macchi by now, (even though I cannot make it work in the regular DBW 1.7, only in 1916)
I only think that such amazing aircraft as Savoia S-55X, with their original and complicated design, double hull, etc. deserve to be in game.
Dornier Wal is also a great plane. Curiously, in this Balearic Campaign, were face to face the two floatplanes with which Spaniards and Italians crossed the Atlantic for the first time: Balbo crossed it with a great fleet of Savoia S-55X, but before, Ramón Franco and his crew did it with the Dornier Wal in solitary.
