How vanilla does vanilla have to be?
« on: April 06, 2012, 06:21:15 AM »

Hi guys.

First off....Great site, and a big thank you to everyone involved in creating all the great stuff available here!

I've had IL-2 1946 for ages, but always found it a bit, er....shall we say, soulless, in comparison to some other flight sims I've used. Until that is, I discovered this most excellent site. The prospect of modding '46' with new planes, terrains, and most especially, sounds, is just awesome.... I'm eager to start with the modding.

But before I do, a question, please:

A few weeks ago (before I found SAS) I reinstalled '46' and patched it to 4.11, and everything's just hunky dory. But since then, I've now added a couple of campaigns, about 15-20 new skins, and some 20-30 single missions.... So I need to know; can I now go ahead and start modding with these still in my game, or should I take out all this additional stuff and get my '46' install totally and utterly 'vanilla'?

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Skins missions and campaign are all standard throughout all mod/modpacks and have no influence or conflict when installing mods, most of the mods here are for 4.101, 4.11 is just too new for all mods to have been made compatible., however you can find a modact for 4.11 and quite a number of mods work, but just realise this is a little bit "beta"

If you have a backup of 4.07/08/09 i would recomend UP3 with DBW to get everything

2nd post in that thread  :) then you can add

An almost foolproof way to get the absolute best out of IL-2 offline :)

Missions and skins... can not break your game. So lay back and relax.

Hey! Thanks very much for the super-fast replies fellas!

Yeah, thinking about it,.... I'm waaaay too eager to wait till DBW's ready for 4.11. So a 2nd install, patched to 4.101 would be the way to go, wouldn't it?

Good to now know that campaigns, skins and missions are okay to leave in though!

Thanks again, and all the best.
