WIP Iowa BB61
« on: April 11, 2012, 02:34:23 AM »

S!

Since I am building this ship for the needs of my squad I will also start a WIP here.

Everyone feel free to critisize and give his feedback so i can improve it.
Right now it's only basic model, work in progress still and no texture!. And no details yet!

My biggest nightmare are the photos as depending on the age they are taken they depict different systems and configurations onboard.

Since early photos of the BB61 are hard to find with adequate resolution I am particularly interested in getting more of them.

I will post more images when I have time.

Thx for the help gents and for your words.

I will post more when the model is somewhat more "refined" and not just a starter.

EDIT: Comparing the plans you sent me Ashehouse with the one I have I see some minor differences in parts, for example front turret area a bit different, and some gun positions + other things a bit different.

But the general shape is the same.

That's not surprising anyway these ships used so many different refits.
I keep refinign the overall shape and will coem to details in last place.

I changed the under bridge area to a more circural in front as opposed to the semi-rectangular I had before and reworked bridge area.

After researching photos, the circular front was used in 1943.
Also I added some more details:

I also have to add this shot is not under perspective so the ship will seem smaller. I did not render this one.

Still working on fixing the details and correcting any possible mistakes.

Some new things in mast. Not much progress.

In 1943 photos it has an antena like the rangefinder on US carriers. But in 1944 late it has slightly reworked antena area and a "satelite plate"( not sure how else to call it in english) antena.

I will model the early one.
