Well I agree mostly but allow me to disagree that BBs were obsolete.

Let's think a bit about this. The firepower and therefore screening capabilities of a battleship could not be compared to any aircraft force. It can devastate a small island by itself.
And you obviously need a navy with both fast escorting ships but also gun platforms.
The other choice is smaller ships with air to ground and air to air missiles. But not such luck back then. Maybe after Korea ok.
So it seems at least in my opinion that there was not really a choice back then. You needed those ships.

Both in Pearl Harbour, Leyte , Taranto , or with the German BBs the torpedo planes never faced an organised CAP aircraft force from their enemies.
At some cases such as Leyte the strike forced faced no enemy aircraft at all.

Big ships were vulnerable to aircraft and submarines of course as history showed, but on the other hand they could cause big scale destruction when air superiority was achieved. You cannot tell for example that the US battleship force was not an excellent screening force for their troops.

So i think, and this is just my opinion, that these ships were not just a waste of money and resources. You simply cannot have a military machine that has only positive things and no weaknesses.
See what happened today when ships were close to dropping the naval gun and then realized that missiles or not a good naval gun is always needed.

You can simply not have a perfect fighting unit.

Will port the basic LOD0 model(without the guns) to the game as soon as I get some free time.

Basic mast shape done( plz comment on cable wire size , now I think they are too small!)
Also flag put up( with door locked since if you are a Greek citizen best to avoid showing sth that might imply liking towards US military. It is about same as an American writing: "Stalin ,I love you". You are in danger of being made fun of later!)
But I'm happy to say mission accomplished in secrecy ;D

And a basic back crane was done.

Do you apply "animated flag of USN" for Iowa?

See this topic
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,24143.0.html

and we can get USN animated flag textures from Gumpy's #9 reply DL link.

Guess I missed the animated flag mod.
I will make it animated before exporting the model.

Let me pile it on even deeper  ;D.

Is the USS North Carolina class battleships modeled yet for our sim?  I'm not at home right now, or I would look.  If not, then is it on the horizon for the future?  Is there room on your schedule Diving_Hawk for another huge undertaking?  You deserve a break, but . . .

For some reason (probably because I'm ignorant) I thought the USS North Carolina was an Iowa Class BB.  I was so looking forward to BB-55 spearheading one of my missions.   :(

***edited ***
Sorry to be such a jerk.  I see that there were only 2 BBs in this class.  It is unlikely that I will see BB-55 anytime soon in any of my missions.  I will just have to use your beautiful Iowa Class BB make the conditions very foggy, and maybe I won't notice the difference.  Thanks.   BTW, I marvel at the beauty of what you have created here.

Let me answer some of the things mentioned.

My aim is to build only BB61 Iowa and the Cold war refit of it.
Other BBs of the series I'm sorry but I do not have the time to work on them as I am just 1 person and I fly for a squad online when we mostly need the ship class generic and not the full series of variants an offliner would opt for.
So do not expect BB62,63 and so on unless some of them require really small changes
I can't just rename the ship and write "Missuri" on top of it.
The little details are different, superstructure si a bit different so on.
My work will be free to edit by all naturally, so another modder could build it if he likes without having to build the whole ship anew

In other words if you can send me the changes that need to be done to have a BB62 ingame and they are relatively small I could do it.

As for the North Carolina, if after I finish this and I take a good break no other modder starts a WIP and if I get the time I will work on it as we need it for our squad missions also.

I do not like promising anything that concerns the future.

Great work mr. Hawk! To see the Iowa class ships in this sim is f...ing awsome!!

Iowa`s bridge was modified to todays look at the begining of 1945.... http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/016152.jpg

Now, New Jersey had a little different modification as I learned today, in late 1943.... http://navsource.org/archives/01/062/016251.jpg

Missouri and Wisconsin were both completed with square faced bridges.... http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/016384a.jpg

The LOD0 is being imported to game.
Once everything is in place ( except guns, those will come last) I will post pic.

...Maybe in 2 weeks and not a ms sooner I will have LOD0 ready with shadows and collision...
