Ok I think it's about time I reveal you the first preview of damage model.
I promished 3d holes and other details.

I will make it better the following days, this is just a preview

You can be the judge if it's good or not

Note 1: because dead sailors and charred bodies might not be to everyones taste I will make a version without them also
Note 2: Sometimes dead bodies have weird positions that's beacause I had to keep them very low polly.

Looks good.
Personally, I would just add the blood on the deck. That way a person never knows if
one got shot or a whole dozen . Did you see that japanese movie "Yamato" ?? in the last
battle, the battleship deck was flooded with human blood !  :o
Go see it in YouTube.

IL-2 1946's ships have "msh naming rules".
Those naming rules are used in damaged time.

I look at Diving_Hawk's Yamato BB, Guns' msh-s don't have correct ruled names.
They seems to be not broken when damaged.

Eliminate the dead bodies. Not only will you reduce polys, but after a big explosion and fire there isn't that much left that's immediately obvious as human - especially from a fast-moving airplane.

Likewise, tone down the blood. Only oxygenated blood is that brilliant a red color and it doesn't stay that bright for long. As it loses oxygen and dries out it becomes much darker in color.

Finally, don't make the superstructure pure black. Make it very dark gray instead with some variation in colors. That way you simulate sooty metal, as well as burned steel (which takes a dull gray color) and bare steel.

Examples of battle damage here:

Well like I said I will keep workign on this today.
I will tone down the blood make it more black in appearance you are right it is a bit more bright than I intended.

As for the dead bodies, I spent quite some time putting them there so why eliminate them?
There will be a version without them anyway

@Western

The reason you see many guns not broken in Yamato is that if you put damage meshes for all the guns then the hier file becomes too large.
I chose to leave the small calibre up to some 25mm without damage model as a compromise.
In my testing naming did not play any role in damage thing.
Is there some connection between the 2? (Appart from naming the damage model with [name of the gun]_dmg and putting it in the ships.ini entry)
Now if you ask me why not name them like all other ships in il2 , that's a good question ;D
I guess curiosity to see what happens if I don't use the names the other ship do. I'm sorry for any confusion I caused :)

@ Pursuivant
Allow me to disagree a bit with this. After for example the US carriers were hit in pacific there are stories about injured men on the deck, some with horrible injuries but still recognisable.

As for the steel I guess you mean use a variation from heavy grey to black right, for damaged areas? Cause the Superstructure isn't black anyway.

Ok I tweeked blood colour to be nearly black. No more wine-ish.
Also made the are beneath the hole darker and added some grey things.

Tht's as far as I can get it, request sth if there's still something you think can be improved but thats how it will mostly look. I like this

I'm sorry but I don't get the irony. Do you mean I am a fool and don't take other's comments seriously?
Cause that's not the case since I corrected both the blood and the damage textures after the guys made their comments.

If that was fun I'm sorry but I don't have that sense of humour

If you don't like what you build yourself why build it in the first place?
You're supposed to like what you make ain't you?
I think you saw I took the comments of all seriously, first by removing the too bright blood with darker one then by asking pursuivant for what he means for the superstructure.

Could you plz explain what you mean to avoid missunderstanding.

Sorry Diving Hawk. No offence was intended at all, nor was it meant as irony.
Its simply that, once you have taken account of comments by others, the ultimate test is your own feelings. I agree with your sentiment. "I like this". That is the point all modellers including me strive to get to. When you get there you know you've done enough.

Ah
Ok now I understand.

You know same sentences sometimes translate differently in different languages.
That's why I asked you to explain

Looking at 1C ships' naming rule, like
Code: [Select]
[Tashkent:Part20]
BaseChunk                Head10_x
strengthBasedOnThisSection strength_GunTiny

gunBasedOnThisSection   gun_DHK
 HeadMinYaw                   0
 HeadMaxYaw                 175
 GunHeadChunk            Head10_x
 GunBarrelChunk           Gun10_x
 GunShellStartHook ShellStart10

This suffix "_x" to Head and Gun msh names of 25mm/20mm or smaller ones, make them firing and disappearance when damaged and broken.
So, msh numbers are not increased.
