That fix by wustenfuchs did it for me.  My sons bought me a new ASUS EAH5770 video card for Christmas, and from what I read here and other places, I was deathly afraid that my game (and more importantly my computer) would never work again, combination of the card and the new drivers.  Well, I can gleefully proclaim that my worries were in vain.  I installed the card, latest hotfix, still got a funny color load screen and black boxes for text, until the game had started for a number of seconds.  Then everything would straighten itself out.  Now, by copying the file provided by wustenfuchs, I don't have any "anomalies" whatsoever.  Everyone talks about framerates and such, but when your eyes are sixty-seven years old like the rest of me, framerates ain't really that big a deal.  I can't really attest to speed of card and drivers, but all seems well.  And my PC still works. :D

My hardware, if interested - Phenom II X3 720BE, Gigabyte MA-GA790X-UD4P motherboard, 4GB memory, 550w Corsair PSU, aforementioned video card, etc.  Windows 7 32 bit.

Oh, the dreaded blue hue... I had a config.ini fix for this, and I completely removed it (using Cata 9.9)- and I had to delete Il-2 a few days ago in preparation for switching my OS... so, I don't remember what fixed it. It was some of the compression/filter extensions, but after that I didn't get no blue hue at all, not even when firing the guns. Sorry... :/

By the way, as a long time ATI camper (using ASUS EAH4770 right now) I can say that ATI's 12x Edge-Detect AA works miracles on Il-2's visual quality. :P

S!

I fiddled with my setup some more and got it up and running. Still lower FPS than on my previous 280GTX, but not so much as before. The 10.1's are last hope really with their supposed OpenGL 3.2 support. I posted on ATI/AMD Game! forums my current conf.ini combined with 9.10 atioglxx.dll and works. No anomalies and smooth play. So solved so far..

I do have one more question on this topic, and then I promise to leave it alone.  I used the provided "9.10 atioglxx.dll" and as I stated before, it works well.  My question - when I update my drivers in January when they come out (10.1 I guess), will that atioglxx.dll continue to work?  Do I need to remove it at some point?  I suppose my question basically boils down to this - will something eventually get screwed up by leaving it where it is?

Thanks.

Just temporarily remove atioglxx.dll from IL-2 folder or rename it (e.g -atioglxx.dll), then test your game and pray they fixed the drivers. If they didn't restore/rename atioglxx.dll back.  :-\

Thank you for your response.  I'll do it.  As usual, I was just trying not to screw up my game, or my PC.

Just got newest 9.12 drivers (newer then hotfix), and same old thing, broken opengl. And probably 10.1 will be based on this one  :-\

S!

More fiddling with the drivers. I tested the betas or whatever floating around now, later version than the 9.12 hotfix. Installed and ran IL-2 with Maximum Settings in IL2 setup(edited conf.ini for screen resolution). Got only the blue hue and garbled blocky text, which cleared within 10-20sec when playing a track. No more flashing skins or plane parts going purple so an improvement there. OK, so how I got rid of the blue hue when firing or near explosions was by disabling the VertexArrays(both settings in conf.ini). Also noted if you use the DepthClampNV=1 causes error messages of clamping in the console, disabling it and you are good to go. Otherwise the drivers worked fine.

Best would be if Oleg released a set of DLL's supporting ATI more and hoping ATI will pull their act together in 10.1's. Because of blocky text corruption I still use 9.10 atioglxx.dll in IL2 folder so I can play online, pretty hard to join a game when you can not see the menus or your mouse pointer as online the game loads graphics first (garbled text) and then comes GUI. What also causes problems in IL2 in form of stutter and loss of FPS is Catalyst AI(should be off) and AA Mode, use Performance and works OK.

Hi, i am very new to these forums. I was directed to this place by a forum post on mission4today regarding ATi graphic issues with IL-2. Sorry for my not perfect English, i am a German and learned English more than 30 years ago in school :)

I lately installed the game without any troubles on my very new system:

i7 860
Radeon 5870 with catalyst 9.12
8 GB RAM 1333
1 TB HDD
Creative titanium soundcard
LG W226 monitor 16:9 with native res. 1920 x 1080
windows 7 64bit

As far as i can see now the game is performing well and smooth but i didn't test fps.
But there are some wellknown issues with the graphics:

- A blue or purple lighting appears on aircraft surfaces, especially noticable on greyish or bare metal surfaces (that's the most annoying thing!)

- Perfect mode not playable, spoils graphics completely ('blocks'), to exit the game you have to kill the process via taskmanager  only

- Highest Res. 1400 x 1050 x 32 colors (highest res. shown in the ingame graphic options) only, higher resolutions via conf.ini are spoiling the graphics the same way as mentioned above.

- Native screen solution must be readjusted when exiting the game, it's always in 1400 x 1050 then.

Hope to get these issues solved with the ATI dll mentioned above. It isn't the game resolution or excellent mode what nerves me most but the blue light issue. Obviously a driver issue, hope very much to get this solved. Don't have any experience with removing or new installing graphic drivers.

Any advices are of course very appreciated, THX a lot!!

Hi,
the ati dll did solve the perfect mode issue, playing in 1920 x 1080 res. looks splendid.  Installing the newest version of cat. 9.12 (incl. hotfix) improved performance additionally.
The dll improved the blue/purple light issue but didn't get rid of it. It still appears when aircraft guns are firing. Additionally graphic errors like flashes.
It's a pity but i am sure it is a pure driver issue.

Eh, any idea when 10.1 are going to be released? I tried all the tweaks, I still get garbled text and messed up graphics on my HD4770 with 9.12 (hotfix or default)...
