and i have catalyst at 2x anti-aliasing, Adaptive anti-aliasing at performance, antiostropic at 2x, disabled catalyst AI, mipmap high quality, with triple buffering.  I'm using a 4870x2 with the very newest drivers.  However, the last time i reverted from drivers 10.2 to drivers 9.10 something got corrupted that made Il-2 completely unplayable, and I'd rather live with the game looking and performing beautifully like it has and deal with the campaign menus freaking out than risk reverting again because last time the only way to fix the problem was to completely redo windows 7 and start from scratch :-S.  I remember this issue popping up a long time ago, but it seems so long ago now that the discussion section on AAA (this was well before I knew of this site, maybe even well before this site period) that the original thread has been buried in the 50 pages of il-2 tech threads there... anyway, I will say that interestingly enough it seems to be the worst when i fly whole missions.  If i just fly a short mission or just start and close a mission, it doesn't seem to flicker and hide the mouse or debriefing screen as much...

S!

You could try Forest=3 as it has very small impact on FPS but game looks a lot better. Also try setting anisotropic filtering to Application Controlled in CCC. Menus flickering is new to me. How did you revert drivers? Best option is to first go to Control Panel -> Install/Uninstall -> remove ATI install manager. Choose option uninstall all ATI software, reboot in safe mode and run a driver cleaner, delete ATI/AMD folders containing any catalyst things.. Then reboot and install new drivers :)

yeah, that's what i did on the reverting (i've been at this computer hardware and drivers thing a while too lol), but when i had 10.1 installed the game ran fine apart from the blocky text.  So i decided to go back to 9.10, and that's when everything went weird and I was getting the super low fps even in the menu when in OpenGL mode like I talked about earlier in the thread.  maybe i'll take some screenshots to show what's happening because i guess flickering isn't the best description.  I think i've figured out what's going on though... it seems to happen the worst whenever I open the map screen during a mission.  If i fly a long mission and open the map, then end the mission, when i click on the map the debriefing menu disappears and the cursor can only be seen while on the map.  I'm busy right now having to run to an interview for a class assignment but I'll take some screenshots when I get back to show what I mean.  Because if I remember right this problem first came up a while ago and might mean I'll have to revert back as far as catalyst 9.8... I wonder if it might be a problem specific to my card... wonder if anyone else on here has a 4870x2... could contrast and compare!  I will try with antiotrop off though and see if that maybe has something to do with it though I don't think so... anyway, thanks again for the help :).

Hmmm... interesting development... seems i can't take screenshots of Il-2.  Do i need a different program or something to take them, because printscreen isn't working, I just get screenshots of my desktop... weird because it works for all my other games, except Il-2.

@barnesy12, my problem isn't gameplay.  gameplay looks amazing with the settings i have.  my problem is the menus after missions while playing campaigns, which freak out and i can either view the map, or the mission results screen, and occasionally flickering on that menu, and the cursor can only be seen on the map screen.  That being said, while i want one, a new system is completely and utterly out of the cards for me at the moment.  I can barely afford gas to actually get to work right now, let alone a new system, haha.  I'm pretty experienced with system building (this is my 5th system in 7 years) and my system is plenty good for playing Il-2 perfectly.  thanks for the input though.

I´ve just installed my new Radeon 5850 and Cat 10.3. Works so far but i now have the blocky text also. I tried to put in the O ATIOGL file from Cat 9.9 into the Il 2 folder but after that Il2 refused to start.

S!

Better off using 9.10 atioglxx.dll than earlier with 5xxx series cards. This is how I get it to work on my 5870HD.

Here's one for the records.  I'm using win7 and installed the game 2.01.  I have the 9.10 dll in a folder called Text Fix in my game folder.  I'm gettng the blocky text untill I shoot at something.  I also have another game installed with tiger sounds too.  That one has the same setup.  It works fine.  I've gone as far as deleting the 9.10 and got another one from my XP drive.  Same thing.  Is it possible that I need to do something else in the config maybe?  I've even gone as far as making sure I have admin rights etc. LOL.  ATI 5750/with 10.3a installed after 10.3.

I think I may have fixed it by turning off Hardware Shadders from 1 to 0
