We can use Steam to update the ATI video drivers:
Steam menu > Update AMD Video Drivers

Tested with 10.9 and hotfix, CrossFire no longer needs to be disabled for missions to load (no more CTD).  No increase in performance though, compared to CrossFire disabled...

Does anyone have the atioglxx.dll version number available that is suppose to do the trick?  The one I have is OpenGL Version    6.14.10.8545.  I got this from mousing over the file in windows explorer and it's in CCC, too.

^ You should not need the separate .dll, the drivers since 10.8 work.  For 10.9 the version is 6.14.10.10207.  What error are you experiencing?

I'm kicking it old school with my ATI graphics.  I have a x1650 AGP and ATI has seen fit to assign it "legacy" status with its driver compatibility.  The driver series stops at 10.2 for the x1650.  What I'm experiencing is a black universe if i invoke open GL with perfect landscape.  All objects are illuminated, but ground, sky and water are nothing but a void.  Kind of an alternate universe experience.

So a specific driver version number would be great.
What I'm curious about the "drop atioglxx.dll in your game folder" is if you have to identify the dll in your conf.ini, such as:

Should
[GLPROVIDERS]
Open GL=Opengl32.dll
DirectX=dx8wrap.dll

be changed to

[GLPROVIDERS]
Open GL=atioglxx.dll
DirectX=dx8wrap.dll

^^ It's the .dll from the Cat 9.10 driver, there's a direct link to the .dll somewhere in the first amd.com forum link here:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1358851

and no, don't change the conf.ini in that manner.

^Dry Heat mentioned using legacy drivers, they stopped at 10.2.  Are you recommending trying to use a newer .dll than the Cat version?

I've read the entire thread, several times actually, and think the better results are to use the Cat 9.10 atioglxx.dll

S!

 Use the Catalyst 10.9 HotFix driver set for IL-2. Works.

^Thanks Flanker35M, we know, Dry Heat is saying for the x1650 the legacy drivers stop at 10.2.

S!

 Take a look HERE for latest profiles and drivers. Those with AGP cards might be interested on that Sticky topic there.
