S!

I have no freezes or crashes on my computer running ATI 5870HD and 64-bit Win7 when working in desktop or other applications than games. In games installed..the ONLY game so far with ANY issues has been "surprisingly" IL-2 with the "nvidialized" code it has. But got it to work with a bit of patience and tweaking, now flawless and purty game for me. It took a lot of work to get IL-2 run satisfactorily on my previous nvidia card 280GTX. IL-2 is an OLD piece of software, live with it ;) Games like Rise Of Flight, EVE Online, Steel Fury 1942: Kharkov, Aces High 2, STALKER: Shadow Of Chernobyl etc. run without a glitch maxxed out..so that about "crappy drivers and support by ATI" ;)

As of drivers in ATI. nVidia is not any better than ATI, both have bugs etc. Just read around a bit ;) This might sound rude, but most of the time errors in system are caused by the organic element between the keyboard and chair ;) People ASSUME too much, expect too much and do not bother to READ manuals or stuff thus having trouble => blaming hardware vendor or their support or lack of it..go figure. Many times I have helped people with their system it has been something they have made, not the hardware.

Waiting a lot for the new 10.1 Catalyst drivers if they have solved the "blocky text" and "blue hue" with them. Wrote to the driver feedback system a detailed letter how to reproduce the problems and how fixed them with system info. But until then..gaming on!

The blue hint is removed by setting the VertexArrays in the config.in file of Il-2 to =0 . Some problems are caused by the game itself, remember that it wasn't designed for ATI cards.

Flanker, in my case I get some slightly noticeable performance increase with setting Triple Buffering to ON.

Also, Il-2 seems to be the only application that I've tested that not only looks far better, but actually doesn't experience FPS loss when I set AA to Edge-Detect and crank it up.

Messer, I use Triple Buffer on, it does no harm :) I have noted same, Edge-Detect makes the game really nice without too much performance loss :D About the VertexArrays and VertexArraysEXT. When having the VertexArraysEXT=1and VertexArrays=0 => No artifacts or blue hue. But nothing changes to worse if I have both off either. Blue hue is related to the VertexArrays, not the second one.

Another find is that Forest=2 makes FPS drop drastically, but using Forest=3 has no FPS hit whatsoever?! Kind of funny! As of other settings, I use Water=0 and Effects=0. Why? Because I am not online watching water but trying to shoot down people ;) Effects are at 0 because I use HG&P Uranium Effects and readme says to use 0 or 1 :)

IL-2 has nVidia optimized code, but it was beta tested with ATI too ;) :P I wonder how much it would require from Maddox Games to update the hardware support in IL-2, to make it less 1-trick pony. No need for new gfx engine, the game looks good enough as it is. Even though I would not mind IL-2 looking like Rise Of Flight ;)

Messer, what card and setup do you have? Settings? Would be nice to compare.

S!

Small update. Been testing the new RC drivers floating around, both versions. No change in IL-2, the blocky text is still there along with funky plane skins, missing 3D parts etc. around explosions. So lighting effects seem to cause a lot of it. With previous drivers the blocky text cleared, but not with these even ran the Black Death in loop. Noticed that with these latest drivers the clouds looked normal in BD track, before they looked kind of too bright. But that does not help if the rest of the game is unplayable due unusable GUI. So it seems 10.1's won't fix the IL-2 problem, at least on 5870HD. Strongly asking ATI users to provide feedback to ATI dev team though, could help.

New Catalyst 10.1 released at ATI. No change in IL-2, still corrupted text in loading screen and console, funky planes and lighting effects. So nothing changed. Back to 9.10 dll in IL-2 folder :(

Yeah those 10.1 are joke, I'm using much newer and stable 8.70 RC2 drivers (probably 10.2). Anyway the problem with IL-2 is still present so guess they f*cked it for good. Well atioglxx.dll workaround works fine, so no big deal  :-\

Sigh... 10.1 is the same mess as the previous one. I'm pondering whether to try the 10.2 beta or revert to 9.10... I haven't played any other games for over six months, but I bought Mass Effect 2 and I don't know how the older drivers would handle it. :/

S!

I use 10.1's with IL-2. Only issue with them is the corrupted text and GUI. It makes online gaming tougher as it would require to join via IP and it is not always available. The blocky text clears fast when running the Black Death track for example. And these drivers showed better FPS in some places in this track..Just if ATI could fix the damned text corruption if enabling Perfect mode. Otherwise all is good and can even set Catalyst AI to Standard now without FPS loss or stutter!

I have Mass Effect 2 Collector's Edition coming my way next week, waiting a lot for it :) Got the old Mass Effect saves stored so..interesting times :) But back to topic..

Hello, friends.
What do you mean with this text issue?
I play with a RADEON 3450 256MB in crossfire with the 3200 onboard and everything looks perfect to me.
I'm playing in perfect mode, but, because of this slow card, I'm not playing with all the things maximized.
And, where can I check the version of my drivers, please?
Thank you, guys.
