Hi,  very nice to hear there is something goin' on with IL-2 Sturmovik and AMD drivers now :) !!

I am still using the 9.12 hotfix driver with the 9.10 atiogllx in root folder and got rid of anything so far but these damned graphic flickers/flashes when guns are firing... >:(
I have a new i7860 machine with 8GB RAM, a XFX 5870 and windows 7 home premium 64bit.
Three times since early january i experienced the atikmdiag-error, driver isn't responding and was recovered...all in 2D modus - a wellknown issue. You get a black/grey screen and there's no choice but to restart your system.
Sometimes sudden crashes in IL-2 to desktop, as mentioned by bob holmes.
No problems with other games so far.

If i understood the posts here right there should be no problem to switch to the newest driver 10.2 (or 10.1 with hotfix??) and keeping the 9.10 atiogllx in the root folder. Should be no additional disadvantage with IL-2?

@Flanker35M
Did you experience graphic problems when firing guns with these newer drivers?

Do i have to uninstall the 9.12 first when switching to a newer driver?

THX a lot and best wishes

S!

I use the leaked 10.3's without the atioglxx.dll in IL2. Sure I then have the blocky text and all, but it clears if I run a track for example. I have not tested with the atioglxx.dll and 10.3's. For me I have had only 2 grey screen with stipes-crash. Those were when I bought this XFX 5870HD in november. None since then! I do not have the flicker in cockpit. Post your conf.ini here and I will take a look :)

Mine runs ok sep for the occasional tearing. Most of the time it runs flawlessly but I see that your settings are a little different than mine and I don't know what for example TexFlags.PolygonStipple=1 on mine and yours is =0.  how much of a difference or impact will this make?

S!

I do not use Polygon Stipple as if I recall right it was intended to use if you used lesser quality shadows like values 1 or 0 instead of 2. Dither I do not use as I do see no real difference with or without it. I wonder how you get the game to work with VertexArrays enabled, I get "blue hue" if firing guns or near explosions if that is on. NVDepthClamp, I see no difference there either and as it is NV related it does not get activated if game sees ATI. I have checked this with friend's machine with nVidia and you get these messages of activated "extras" in console with nVidia. With ATI only the basic ones. Tearing is because VSync off I guess ;)

Installed 10.1 hotfix driver and altered conf.ini to your settings (keeping 9.10 atioglxx in root) and much lesser  graphic problems (flickering/flashes) so far. The disappearing cockpit issue occured once again, but only for a short time.
Much better overall performance compared to 9.12, even stutterings when flying over cities with a lot of buildings (perfect mode) are nearly gone now.
Couldn't install 10.2 properly but this perhaps was due to windows 7 each time automatically installing a new driver via windows update. Game crashed afterwards each time shortly after starting. When i noticed i had to cut off lan connection i tried 10.1 with hotfix and everything worked well. I will stick to 10.1 now and see how it works, perhaps will try again later with 10.2.
Is there any notable improvement with 10.2?

THX a lot Flanker35M!!

S!

You are welcome :) LEt's keep thumbs up the 10.3's will include IL2 fix, but I think it will go to 10.4's maybe. Shall see. I use myself the 10.3 Preview ones, can be found on Rage3D for example if want to give them a try. They seem to be the fastest ones so far. This Win7 doing the web update is pretty annoying, I install with ATI installer anyway, it seems ot decently update the drivers even without removing the old ones. Safest is of course to uninstall, restart in safe mode and then clean the old ones with Driver Cleaner or similar, restart and install latest ones.

I put my Catalyst Control Center settings below if of any help.

 Antialiasing: 4x Edge-Detect
 AA Mode: Super-Sampling
 Catalyst AI: Disabled
 Anisotropic filtering: Application controlled
 VSync: On, Unless application requires
 Triple Buffering: On
 Texture Filtering: High Quality

I tried to deactivate Catalyst A. I. but got the flickers/flashing issues when firing guns again, no problems so far with set to 'Standard'. Weird thing...

S!

A heads up for today. ATI is releaseing 10.3 drivers during 17th of March with fixes and improvements. IL-2 is not mentioned in the fix lit, but will give these drivers a try anyway. The 9.10 atioglxx.dll works with the 10.3's I got installed just fine with good perfromance, Black Death track ran from 25fps minimum to 308fps maximum at 1920x1200,, OpenGL, Perfect mode etc.

What happen if you don't use 9.10 atioglxx.dll?
But only 10.3 drivers?
