Corrected aircraft numbers

I was thinking that I'd like to see the numbers on USN USAAF and some other planes be corrected so that there is no zero for the numbers one through nine.
Instead of the first Corsair - for example - being 01 the number should just be 1. 
Seems like a simple thing and it looks very awkward and non historic to have the zero in front of the number.
