Simbuilding tutorials/ links
« on: April 26, 2012, 04:33:05 AM »

R.I.P. Bill Trezise

Not for competing with other sites , I would just have a collections of links and ideas on how to build an joystick and show people how easy and cheap it realy is to build switches and gadgets for giving the game more immersion. And after a reinstall of my pc I lost all my links to such sites
I am on my way to build myself a KG 13 stick from scratch, I am going to use a long time on it and make it as cheap as possible just for the fun of it
I buy this molded grip from here:
http://www.simparts.de/epages/15465782.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/15465782/Products/KG13A-0001/SubProducts/KG13A-0001-0001

For all switches witch you can buy anywhere, preferably touch buttons since our sim is not fond of on off switches. I use them too but with issues. These must be connected to a usb controller. and this is a very good one. http://www.leobodnar.com/products/BU0836X/  That does not conflict with any known manufacturer of other usb devices

To get mmerson to a simulator, the most important things you need is the following. I mean before you got an throttle and after you got a yoke/ stick:

Rudderpedals
I have these, I can recomend them but I do not know if there are better in same price catogory

My pit:

TrackIr

Then a throttle device. (I know I showed before, just love it)

I tryed all and has landed on a yoke like this

But I wanted this

That was a choise about economy, but I like mediumbombers , two engine fighters so Ill do well. The chessna yoke got 180 degree turn making it a easy controll for fighters. the CH yoke the turn is less and it is hard to small adjustments

Thanks for the links :) Your pit looks cool, I like the trim wheel  ;D
I'm thinking about getting pedals, its only the price  :-\ Bought myself a new computer and other stuff, so its kinda tricky. TrackIr would be cool too, but I guess Freetrack should go too, as its way cheaper to get  :D For now I use FT noIr.

I did not bother with rudderpedals before, but I am telling you! you do not fly a windmillplane without it. And it is sertanly so in real life. Modern aera planes (jet's) does not require or at least seldom use of rudder. Warbirds you use it all the time. A twist handle joystick just does not do the work.
But as you say, it all comes with the money. My point is, what priority should you have. And I tryed everything up to days date in reasonable priced items, that is.

Priority for equipent should be in my expirience:
Joystick/ Yoke
Rudderpedals
TrakIr or similar
Throttle
other gadgets

Well right now I have X-52, so stick and throttle are there. And the FT no IR, but it is not always like I want it, because its very sensitive to light, and sometimes it just doesnt react, or does something I dont want it to do  ::)
I think I will put pedals and TrackIR on my next Birthday wishlist  :P

TrackIr works flawless when the sun does not shine or you got a fireplace rigt behind you. One of the reasons why I moved my sim to a small room without windows  :)

I have the same problem with my Freetrack setup. In summertime I've got sunlight coming from the right during morning hours, in the afternoon from the left and in the evening hours the neighbour's windows reflect sunlight on to my cam. The only time to fly during summer is when it's dark outside.

About DIY pits, what to think of this movable meccano made simpit?

I have seen some of those, and I think it would be nice to do sometimes, but not all the time. I think it must be tireding turning and not having G forces to keep you in the seat all the time

id love to have one of those, but i just dont have the money or the skill. if those factors weren't important, id have a moving cockpit fully surrounded by monitors, and my joystick (which would hopefully be in working condition) would be fastened to the right side panel of the cockpit, with the throttle on the left side panel.
