Some DGEN things are a true mistery....Thankfully we have our good ol' classes file trick and the mission pro mod. Maybe in future some people will come with more tricks to add new maps, squadrons and countries (China, Spanish Civil War, etc)

There was a post by AntEater at SimHQ that could explain why most of the new TD planes didn't work in Dgen.

AntEater wrote:
"Btw, what the Daidalos team COULD do was to ensure the Hs 129 and other flyables are DGen compatible.
The trigger that causes the 4.09 planes not to work in Dgen is in the code itself, not in Dgen...."

I hope Team Daidalos will fix this issue.

I´m testing bigger bomber formations for my "Home defense" campaign, with 39 planes insted of 26, it adds a lot of immersion for me cause you have much more the feeling of a bomber stream when entering the formation and flying through it -  but it´s a perfomance eater.

I´ve found a guy with a decent comuter, who tested it and now i´m looking for some beta testers with some older, less powefull computers - my spec are Intel i5 750, 4 Gig RAM and Radeon 5850 - anbody who is interested to test it a little bit?

im well up for testing, i have BOE and your other campaigns, runing a mid spec maching, 2.6 Dual core, 2 Gig RAM, Nvida 8600 GT graphics card, fps on most maps with lots of planes in the air sits around the 35-40 mark, with graphic settings right up.

Hi Boelcke,
I have also tested larger numbers of bombers in my Japanese Home Defence campaign. My computers spec are basically the same as yours. I noticed the first performance problems when I had around 60 B-29 bombers in a mission. I think 39 bombers will be a problem for some older computers, so it might be a good idea to include two different versions of the ops files, one with 26 and one with 39 bombers.

There is another thing I was thinking about in the last weeks: what I don't like in DGen campaigns that need BOE is that the escort fighters will not spawn together with the heavy bombers and will instead fly ahead of the bomber stream. Do you know if there is a way to make the fighters appear together with the bombers?

Hi juri_js,

thx for comment. With the Berlin map i had performance drops with more than 50 bombers, but 39 and some fighters are no problem. A nice guy from UP forum tested it with an Intel i970 and he also didn´t had performance problems. That´s the reason i´m looking for someone with older hardware to test it.

I think the version with an optional ops file pack for more bombers will be the best, that´s right, but it´s interesting also to hear what´s the limit of needed hardware.

For the fighter escort problem, well i know this problem and i also didn´t find a way to solve it. There is only one option the Bz in the ops files for bombers, then the bomber will spawn with 2 fighters as close escort, but there isn´t enough time to  reach altitude for the german fighters. That´s no option. I´m clueless.

One thing I tried was to give the fighters a heavy bomber entry in the planes file and added a second hB group in the ops file to make bombers and fighters appear together, but this caused a lot of plane crashes. I even tried to give the escort fighters a very low speed in the planes file and increase the bombers speed so they can catch up with the fighters, but this only works when the way to the target is very long.

I noticed that the PTO part of DGen is much more flexible when it comes to heavy bomber missions. It is possible to use an aF entry (airstart fighter) in the ops files, you can have fighter groups that escort the bombers and others that fly ahead of the bomber stream and it is possible to change the airstart points. Unfortunatly none of this works in ETO campaigns (as far as I know).

The crazy thing about it, is that if you do an allied campaign as fighter pilot, the same hB + F option in the ops files produces a close escort of the fighters all along the way of the bombers.

Another problem is that the ETO maps (Berlin, Normandy, NWE) are small maps. On these maps you don´t have many options like different speed settings cause the way for the bomber and fighter formations is to short.

For bombers and escorts the trick with different speed settings doesn't work very well. But I noticed, that using different aircraft types with different speeds (or altitudes) is a good way to make some mission types more varied and interesting. For example in my Norway campaign I have some missions were a fast recon planes flies ahead of the RAF bombers. I do this to simulate a reconnaissance plane that is looking for targets and orders the bombers to this target, a tactic often used in anti shipping strikes by Coastal Command. In other missions a slow seaplane will follow the bombers to assess the damage or to look for downed crews. An example from the next update of my Kiev campaign are attacks on airfields by fast low flying fighter bombers that are followed by slow high flying level bombers - quite challenging if you have to defend the airfield.

Many people are complaining that Dgen missions are to uniform, but small tricks like this are an easy way to make them more interesting.
