V & W Class install ok using default ships.ini text entries -- not the Ship Extension Mod version.
I don't have the Ship Extension Mod installed at present.

okay, i have that entry in my ships.ini gun parameters section, so not sure if that's the problem.
in fact, i think there's no harm in having that entry even if the ships themselves aren't installed,
as i haven't removed it, and everything loads normally.
only by adding the ship entries themselves, do i get the crash.
if it helps, here's what i have installed in this version so far, without issue:


as mentioned, i am not using the ship extensions mod in this install either - i've only been adding the default option entries. which is puzzling.

The classes for the VClass, EClass, Corvettes and others are all combined into a single set.
Do you have the latest version.

In my ShipGio folder I have 57 class files, 4 of which are weapons classes.
Put all of your gio ships in a single mod folder with the latest class files.

Minekaze and Sims ship classes are included in the class file set I am using.

I don't have the corvettes installed in HSFX6 yet.
I dont have the gio trawlers installed.

Generally when installing I will but all the folders into MODS then do the ships.ini entries.
At that stage nothing new is enabled but the game should load ok.
Then I add the two new chief.ini entries for each ship.
No entries are made in stationary.ini and technics_ru until it is working ok just with chief.ini and ships.ini entries.

okay, my Gio classes are the ones that came with the Minekaze IJN DD pack, consisting of only 42 classes. so that's likely the problem.
which d/l has the latest classes in it, then?

No not them. They only have 5 class files so must be a standalone set.

okay, i'll have a look through the options. i vaguely recollect having a similar issue quite a while back with another install, and i did eventually manage to sort it out.

now if i can just trace that install on a backup drive somewhere.

ok, report back - found the most recent gio classes are from the HMS U-class submarine, here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,25923.0.html
after sorting out the classes, all destroyer packs now working correctly. :D
