Amazing Cockpit Re-skins
« on: May 15, 2012, 04:19:00 AM »

I didn't know where was the best place to post this, so thought I'd try here.

Rummaging around on the internet I found a site which has some outstanding cockpit re-skins, including some of Freddy's cockpits, and the stock P-51's. I like my cockpit weathered, and find these new skins much more authentic. Unfortunately the site is lacking in instructions, so if you run into problems please ask and I'll try to help you.

Here's the site: http://cromhunt.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=downloadskins

P.S. you'll need to register (free) to download the skins.

Saluti a tutti Gattobuono :)

I tried many of Chromhunt's skins for P-51s and F-86s etc. Liked them!
Also, some few of his F-86 panels are included in the upcoming Histomod as well as in DBW, one way or the other.
The P-51 repaints did not go so good with my Histomod install IIRC, I prefer Freddy's version.
Chroms skins are usually top work, precise and stylish.- :)

Chromhunt's skins are the basis of all the F-86 cockpit textures in the JetWar pack ;) I did some slight tweaking of the overall tone and a few features. But yes, Chromhunt is a very talented skinner and he has quite a few little treasures in his forum.

I've installed the 2 Mustang cockpits as well as the Corsair. Beautiful work, absolutely beautiful. I had to tweek them some to work on my AARP card carrying 4.09 install (swapping and deleting a few files) but lots of nice details and the weathering makes it worth the effort.

Freddy's cockpits are great, but I always found the textures a bit too clean and cartoon like (no disrespect intended). These texture feel a bit more 'real' to me. Can't wait for the new 109 pack that I've heard rumours of!

I see more are discovering the "secret" of Cromhunt. DCS's skins are top-notch, and there's a better selection of skins for some jets than on other sites. It was one of the first places I found decent skins for the F-84 and F9F. If you want skins for MiG 15s, F-86, F-84s, F9Fs, and F-80s, it is THE place. I only wish that he'd make some blanks or non-marked ones though. Also, every few months some of the skins are redone, so checking back now and again yields even better skins!
