Hello all, the problem that Riptide_One one was having with the second mission of Poltava's Death over the Med campaign is down to the SM-81, I've also expeienced it. :'(

The problem is we have two versions, the original by gio which you use instead of a Ju-52 and the second by redfox which gives it a slot.

We then have some rather superb tga files by Stanislao that will change the default, these worked fine with the original mod as I tried all the schemes, however, if I install them into redfox's version I get the same mission problem as Riptide_One, the aircraft hanging in the air and everything exploding. ???

I found this by doing an experiment which involved re-installing redfox's version, all loaded fine in QMB and in the mission, but that comes with an Italian aircraft as default.  I put in Stanislao's files for the Nationalist machine and the problem returned, so I then added the Nationalist machine tga files from the original gio download, problem solved.

Not sure why this happens bu I hope this helps anyone experiencing the mission problem.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hi Pete
Thanks for confirming this, as I also had this issue when changeing nice default skin from Stanislao with Redfoxs stand alone conversion. Thought it was me doing something wrong again (normally the case  ::) ) But might try orig mod then just to get the great default skin from Stanislao.
Thanks

Hello ggrewe, to enable the Stanislao skins to function in redfox's version you will need to re-size them using Irfranview.

Six of the tga files are 1280x1280, change those to 1024x1024.

VarieSM81 needs to change from 560x560 to 512x512.

owieta can be left as it is.

Works for me anyway. ;)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Pete!

Many thanks for doing this detective work. What a weird problem! I have received feedback from other users of "Death over the Mediterranean" mentioning about this problem, but as I was unable to reproduce it myself, I thought it must be a case of conflicting mods!

When I get home I will update the campaign with all the necessary info.  :)

Hi, Mission_bug. That's good to know. Can you email me the file please? I can't be bothered with all that Infranview stuff.  The third mission of Balaerics Breguets is done.

cheers

David

Got this beast to work, but I can't start the engines except with autopilot engaged abd then take over control.

I have now updated my campaign "Death over the Mediterranean", to cater for the info given here about possible problems when using the SM.81. More info here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,25796.msg279994.html#msg279994

EDIT: I rephrased the above.

Just to clear things up from the last few posts....or add to the confusion!!!

There is NOT two different SM81 models. All the 3do work is by Gio; I only added a few java files to give the a/c it's own slot. So please don't credit me for the great 3d modelling.

As far as I know there is no 3d 'SM81 bug' that will make it unflyable. As it has been pointed out by Mission-bug this is a skin problem. I haven't come across a 1280 x 1280 skin before. I would expect after 512 x 512 and 1024 x 1024 the next appropriate size would be 2048 x 2048.

Cheers - Refox
