A little bit of work to do to get this to work in DBW.

Best to enable it through JSGME as it replaces 'JU52 3mg3'

1. Change SM-81 folder name to 00_SM-81 so it loads before any JU52 3mg3 mod you may have.

2. Inside 00_SM-81 folder create a new '3do' folder.

3. Move PLANE and COCKPIT folder into new 3do folder.

4. Inside PLANE folder decide which version you want to fly and change that folder name to 'JU-52_3MG3E'.

That should get it in the air.

A bit of alteration to the original JU-52_3MG3E class file should have this as a new slot but I certainly wont get round to that today - RL is a real bummer

Cheers - Redfox

Hi Redfox,

I tried your solution and while the game will load up just fine, I end up with a JU-52_3MG3E in Spanish Nationalist colors. It looks great but is not the SM-81

Any ideas?

Thanks!

One of the problems of the current a/c is that it flies like a Ju52/4g which is not representaive at all of the early SM-81. Another is that it carries a German payload.

Although much loved by it's aircrew and kept in service for so long because of it's good payload, the SM-81 wasn't called 'the slug' by it's pilots for no reason. With a decent cargo aboard it could take forever to climb to operating altitude and although considered fast in 1935, by 1937 any decent fighter could catch it.

This update intoduces the early version equipped with the 680hp rated Alfa_125_RC35 engines and new payloads:

Although the SM-81s range is quoted as 2000km; this was only obtained when ferrying the a/c in an empty state. It's combat range has been stated as nearer 400km. An increase in weapon load resulted in an equal reduction in fuel. I've made an attempt to simulate this and from empty up to 1000kg load with full fuel the a/c although slow will handle reasonably. With a full payload of 2000kg and full fuel, although the a/c will get in the air, it will really struggle to gain height. My preference during testing with a full payload was anything between 30% to 50% fuel load. AI will of course handle it a little better but will still struggle.

Tested in DBW1.71 - other setups will require the Diff_FM mod.

Drop the air_SM-81 folder into your #DBW folder or other Mod folder and let it overwrite the previous version.

A later version of the stopgap Savio Marchetti SM 81

Same 3do model by Gio963tto

New emd file to represent the SM 81 model with the 780hp rated Alpha 126 rc34 engines. You should find an improved engine performance than the earlier version.

thanks gio963tto  for this wonderful old plane
I would  love to have the dear old "slug" in my game too, but this installation is beyond me!!
I've installed many modded aircraft before without any problem, but the instructions for this one seem to be in too many fragments, issued at different stages of devpt, - and so I cant figure out  the simplest means of installing JUST the latest version.
Can anyone please just summarise the current minimum procedure, in one post?
 [I'm running UP3 4.101, plus vanilla 4.11]
with many thanks,
FF

Hey, my dear gio963tto, is not that out of your hat can also bring out a nice Br. 20 "stork" would the happiness of many Italian fans and not only .. and then would be the only piece still missing to complete the bomber squadrons of the Regia Aeronautica ..!
Thanks for all the gifts that we have greatly appreciated!

By the way... wasn't the BR-20 used in Spain (I know it has been used in China by the IJA...) ?

I do not understand English ... but it does not stop trying to understand ... a little ...
And in a post I read that Dreamk would make a BR.20!
