I'm confused! As I understand it this plane cant be skinned but theres loads of alternative (summer) skins here? Cant they be used in a skins folder for this plane?

Folder 3do\Plane\SM-81\Skin_Piaggio\
you have files :alaSM81T.tga - SM81D01T.tga - etc...

Copy/paste this files in Plane folder !
Do not touch the folder "summer".

The problem is that this plane now has more than one texture file that has to be edited to change skin. The normal skin selection in game can just change one texture file, and thus all external surfaces should be remapped onto one texture file to make this plane properly skinnable. Currently you can repaint the plane and change skin only by modifying several texture files, so you can't do it in game.

Wow, great plane, thanks to all involved!
Just a little bug found: bomber sight is bugged (increase-decrease depression doesn't work). I know it's not important for fighter-players, but I hope this could be fixed for all bomber-players.

For all  lovers of the Spanish theater of war here is a  skin of the "bat" SM.81 a little more attractive .. is always a complex of TGA files, waiting for some eager able to develop a suitable template .. Thanks a lot Gio963tto for this essential  aircraft !
Remember always to copy and  save the original files before placing the new one..

I have faced the same one. The plane is great, but let to ask to fix the bug. It is very needed for bomber missions for SCW.

Although there is no way to see the SM-81 and Ju-52mg3 together in bombing the Republicans? because I really like this Italian bomber as much as the Tante Ju!

It was tested in DBW 1.71 only... so I don't know what will happen in other installs.

Drop it the usual folder and add to air.ini
