HI, juanmalapuente. The ever reliable Wikipedia says they had a squadron in Spain. Either #62, or #68.

cheers

Hi David, the first 3 planes were put together with 3 Macchi-41 after their arrival in Mallorca in december 1936, forming the group 2-G-62, based at Pollença, so all the planes had the code 62 in their numerals, 62-1 to 62-3. They were handed over to Spaniards after a month of service.
The gabbiano 62-1 crashed into a ship mast, killing the pilot Ruiz de la Puente and his crew in february 1937. In march 1937, 5 more Cant-501 arrived to reinforce the group, being numbered 62-4 to 62-8.
In august 1937, they worked together with 3 Italian gabbianos based in Sardinia, in their observation role. After all, Italians were violating systematically the non intervention pact already...
In march 1938 they were combined into group 2-G-62-70 with the Dornier Wall and in september 1938 the 6 Cant-506 substituted the D-W, becoming the group 2-G-62-73.
Along all this time, they spotted lots of transport ships carrying material for the Republicans and also made dozens of observation flights over Republican ports, flying at 4000 m to avoid AAA.

[DJP]  It's good to know those details. Speaking of Flak, I guess there wasn't much of it in the Balaerics in the beginning. I'm guessing maybe a 75mm battery or two, some MGs, and a couple of Oerlikons. Thanks for the info. My FAA Pacific campiagn is almost good to go.

cheers

Yes, you're right. Almost no AAA in the Baleares. Most AAA in Mediterranean were in the mainland coastal defence and were few the first year, increasing greatly by 1938.

Thanks Juan. I guess a 75mm Batterry in the two big towns. Three, or four Olierkons, and five to six AA MGs. As for the Republican Navy. I guess USS Ward, Aurora, some subs, and the Coast Defence ship. An MTB or two probably wouldn't be out of place. As for the landing at Palma. It looks rather improvised. Merchies hove to close inshore. I think Andrea, Valentina, and Cocito will be getting used a lot. Also, the ubiquitious Greek fishing boat. Ships boats transferring soldiers from them. Warships further out giving covering fire. That must have scared the daylights out of the garrison.

cheers

David.

That's right. Improvised transport, but effective. 3000 militiamen were a scary invasion force in those early moments of the war, I think those boats and ships will give a good impression of what this was.  :)

Hello Benno, the original mod would only display 512X512 textures but a fix for that by Birdman is at the bottom of the first post.  Once you add those files you will be able to use the skinpack of 1024x1024 files I uploaded to M4T which has two numbered Rumanian aircraft. ;)

Look for the words have normal skinnable, there is a link there.

If you have a default Spanish aircraft then you probably have some files I uploaded in this thread for the skinmod, they give you defaults for certain maps, pacific for Spain, mto for Italy and a summer folder for Rumania, these will show as defaults if you have a particular map loaded, ie load Besserbia and you should get a Rumanian Cant as default.

Hope this helps.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D
