I may go ahead and try it anyway over a clean 4.12, backing up my modded 4.12 and stock 4.12.

i'd advise against simply trying to install 1916 over 4122 game.
do yourself a favor and check out some of the threads on it - there could be some trickery involved in getting it to work, but it will be slightly advanced stuff, especially if you're new to the scene.
i don't rate your chances of it working as is over a 4122 game.

I just did exacly that -- made a copy of the stock 4.12.2 from steam and then copied all the DBW 16 stuff over it (and there was a lot of it). It worked fine.

I am happy to say that so far DBW has installed fine and plays correctly over a clean (Steam version) 4.12 

I am now d/loading the WWI v3.3 and will provide an update once install is complete. Fingers remain crossed.
