Re: DBW 1916 update v1b5 (UPDATED! 22.07)
« Reply #252 on: July 25, 2012, 12:16:26 AM »

I have a DBW 1.71 installation which includes the DBW 1916. I had updated the DBW 1916 with v1b5 . But I do not get the 3 Loading Screens as posted by vpmedia in his thread. Other things seem to work fine till now. I find the Gotha IV bomber still having the TB3 dashboard. But "Rise of Flight" youtube video on it shows a more accurate one. Also I have a  basic fundamental question. Since these planes are long dead and very few of them (original/flying replica/nonflying replica) remains in museum and private collection is it at all possible to know what was their cockpit like (historically accurate). Also photographs were rare in those days and also the chance of survival of engineering drawings is slim after  two great wars.

There's a new splash and a new menu background shown on this threads first page, can you see those ingame?
The loading screens you'll see if you load a DE,GB,NN,US,FR campaign or misssion.

I dont know what you mean by " But "Rise of Flight" youtube video on it shows a more accurate one"?
But alotef probably got this one: Frankenplane...
Answering your basic fundamental question:
If for a certain type no plane, blueprint has survived or pilot is alive than there will be hardly anyone who could challange your design decisions. Theres a group in new Zealand who build replicas:

Some of those new smart AI pilots are very agressive aces. Whomever did that change to the AI pilots, Thanks!

I agree, but when i have a low flight dogfight, the AI aircraft mostly crashes into the ground. Hope that issue will be solved.

Few FM changes are needed but to be honest when i have a low flight dogfight, I mostly crash into the ground too :)
What you see has probably also a lot to do with AI being unable to handle damaged planes which also happens in normal DBW.
Plus planes seemed to crash more when I deactivated the included AI mod, but you can give it a try.

That's true, it could be due to the damaged aircraft. I will test the AI with deactivated mod, thanks for your help.

Actually vpmedia, it seems to be a pretty legitimate tactic: Whenever they crash into the ground and I'm behind them, I cop a huge amount of splash damage and end up crashing too!  ;D

mate, can you clarify exactly what you mean by updating DBW1916 with v1b5?
as in, exactly?
i ask, because it sounds to me like you might have simply overwritten your existing 1916 with the new one, which is incorrect, and might lead to the kind of problems you describe....
the correct installation method is well explained in the readme and first post. ;)

@ Hawker17, the AI crashing into the ground issue was fixed already, my WW1 planes seldom crash into the ground anymore (note, i say seldom, not never - still, way better than previously, when they would pretty much all commit hara-kiri for no apparent reason...:D)

Really, i don't share the same experiences.  :-[ Even when i setup a scramble mission with a Fokker E3 as wingman for example, he mostly crashes into the ground short after takeoff.

I've setup a simple scramble in v1b5 using my quick mission for Westfront44 map 2 Fokkers take off without problem with AI only.

But in my experience you can kill your wingmen in both DBW and DBW 1916 if you make a sudden turn at wrong height sometimes its better to send them out to hunt rather than follow you. Speed and other parameters set in mission files should also be looked at too.
Basically I agree they crash more but not so often to ruin the gameplay. If I run into an FM expert I'm gonna ask him about this thing with crashes.

They crash because of a simple reason... they are AI rookies!
Unexperienced young pilots fresh out of school and put into cockpits to fly.

vpmedia,

Brilliant work! I love the new tanks and ships. I would like help with one thing. Although I did select "markings on", the roundals don't show up on the Camel and the aircraft's letter only shows up on the right side of the plane. However, the flash on the rudder shows up on both sides. If you've got a solution for this, it would make v1b5 perfect for me :).

Cheers,

Your wingman thinks he's driving a Spitfire but in reality its a Po-2 ;)
This is how the marriage of Fighter AI + Crap plane FM looks like.

there were some issues but currently all seems to work fine in my install:

restarting the game should bring back markings if disappeared
