Guess I can't help posting a link to some of the better and more popular or well-known songs with period recordings. It's getting closer to November 11th and the times are fitting for some music as this. I also tried to include songs from other nations. So there are 2versions of Aupres de ma Blonde - a truly old song from the late 17th century if I am not mistaken. There is also Madelon and two versions of Die Wacht am Rhein - also an older song in origin. And to round it off there is a Russian version of their period anthem - God save the Czar, to the tune of God Save the King.
The songs:
Mademoiselle From Armentieres - Durlacher.mp4
09-We Are Fred Karno's Army.mp3
Amparito Farrar - Madelon 1918.mp3
Arthur Fields - How Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down on the Farm 1919.mp3
Columbia Quartet - Pack Up Your Troubles 1918.mp3
Eva Gauthier - Aupres de ma Blonde 1919.mp3
March - Aupres de Ma Blonde 1920.mp3
Marion Harris - Au Revoir But Not Goodbye Soldier Boy.mp3
Nora Bayes - How Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down On The Farm.mp3
Richard Tauber - Roses of Picardy.mp3
Rosa Ponselle - Keep the Home Fires Burning.mp3
Shatrov - God Save the Tsar.mp3
Wacht am Rhein 1914.mp3
Wacht am Rhein - 1904.mp3
WW I - the Colonel - Tipperary - Armentieres.mp3
The first one - Mademoiselle from Armentieres - Durlacher is really an oddity. It's a 1930's square dance version of that catchy little tune, along with traditional calls for the dancers. Really cute. All songs are period recordings, except for Fred Karno's Army ...
