Created DCG Campaign but it won't 'start'
« on: June 11, 2012, 07:41:46 AM »

I have DBW 1.71 and created a Offline Career Campaign using DCG and Lonestar's guide.  Everything seems to be OK.  I have the campaign showing in DCG and then when starting DBW I have the campaign showing in the Pilot Career list.  When I click the 'Start' button in the bottom right however, nothing happens.  The 'Start' button remains pressed but nothing else and I have to Ctl-Alt-Delete to get out.
Obviously I've missed something but I don't get any error message so I'm not sure.
Can anyone advise please?
Thanks.

Sometimes the start button remains depressed for 30+ seconds while the campaign is being generated. Give it some time.

I waited but it just ends up in "Not Responding" mode.

I checked the DCG error log and got the following;

Had a quick look in my DCGerror.txt and the next entries after "Set Target Nation Ended." relate to stationary objects.

Another thing to try is, when you click "Start", alt-tab to desktop and watch out for a message box from DCG/Dgen.

The error msg is:

" is not a valid floating point value

EDIT:  I think I've probably named my airfields incorrectly (e.g.  Manston_Airfield) within the campaign file(s)).  My problem now is how do I find the proper syntax for the airfields and towns etc in the WF44S map.  For example if I want Dover Straits to be the Front do I just put Front=Dover_Straits or is it DoverStraits,  there's no way to check (that I'm aware of).  The info must be somewhere but as a noob I have no idea where!!!

Hi,
I suspect it is due to an incorrect entry in one of the campaign files! It could also be a typing error, look in any case again in all entries of the files! The entries that you have given here as an example, would be spelled correctly!
You can take Dover_Straits or DoverStraits, both are correct, Manston_Airfield is also correct!

Understood but I have no idea if Dover Straits is even correct whether the spelling is correct or not.  It's on the map in the channel but should it have a _Sea  extension also?   That's the info I can't find.

I'm getting a little further ahead but am still getting the following error msg;

"Player squadron has no legitimate airfield or carrier"
which I assume means I'm not using the correct title for the airfields.  But what IS the correct title for the airfields.  On the WestFront44 map the only "title" close to the homefield is "Bradwell Bay" for example, but there's nothing to indicate how that should be written in the .rds file.
Should it be;
Bradwell_Bay  or
Bradwell_Bay_NR1_Airfield  or
Bradwell_Bay_Airfield  or ?????
etc
Is there a file which has a list of the map's proper location names?

Yes, when its should be a Sea location, then you must name it with the ending _Sea, like "Dover_Straits_Sea" or "Dover_Straits_Area1_Sea", if you want to have more of such locations!That kind of locations comes into the .srd file!
No, Bradwell_Airfield or _Airstrip is the right name! Airfields are a location, you dont need a location nearby with a similar name for an Airfield location!
Its only necessary for Rail Stations, Harbor or Invasion point locations! One point is the position for Trains and ships when loading/unloading troops and the other location definds the position for the loaded/unloaded troops!

I'm still not getting the campaign to start.
My DCG error file has the following which looks OK.
[2012/06/13 19:31:15.672] Parameter String0 = C:\Games\DCG\il2dcg.exe
[2012/06/13 19:31:15.672] DCG.ini processed.

[2012/06/13 19:31:15.672] Game version checked [1946].
[2012/06/13 19:31:15.672] Game version includes IL2AEP [True].
[2012/06/13 19:31:15.672] Game version successfully set up.
[2012/06/13 19:31:15.672] Mission Button Enabled.
[2012/06/13 19:31:15.672] Player Name Checked.
[2012/06/13 19:32:18.287] Setting new log file date.
[2012/06/13 19:32:18.287] Game Path = C:\Program Files (x86)\IL2 DBW\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\
[2012/06/13 19:32:18.287] Finding configuration file to determine log file name.
[2012/06/13 19:32:18.287] Logfile = eventlog.lst
[2012/06/13 19:32:18.287] The recommended setting for the IL-2 "eventlogkeep" parameter is "0" in the game CONF.INI and/or server CONFS.INI file.
[2012/06/13 19:33:29.361] Setting new log file date.
[2012/06/13 19:33:42.184] Campaign Start Button Clicked.

After I click the Start button I have the screen where I select my aircraft.  There are a short list of strange aircraft but the B17E is in there so I select it and hit "Generate" and it clicks once and does nothing but just stays at that screen.

One thing I did notice is that within my campaign .ini file under the
    title there is usually a very, very long list of dcgmission.mis just repeating and repeating.

By the way, I do get an "access violation" error when starting DCG but then it seems to run normally.
Sorry for taking up so much space I didn't realise some of it would be double-spaced.
I appreciate your help with this.  If I crack this my coop colleagues will be extremely happy.
