AG-51 Hoss,

Thanks for sharing your Open GL conf.ini settings.   I tried them and they improved my graphics quality.  (Yes I made a backup copy of my current conf.ini just in case.)  I assumed they would work as I’m using an EVGA 470GTX graphics card (not quite as good as your MSI 580GTX) and have had no problems with IL2 graphics slowing down even with 50 or more aircraft and ground objects active.   

Some quick testing in the QMB using 48 aircraft at low level all I got was improved graphics with no apparent slow down.  I especially liked the better trees and water.  The rest of my setup is an Intel i7 processor (OC'd to 4 GHz) and 8 gig of RAM which probably doesn’t hurt either.   I’m only using 1920x1080 resolution (on a 32” HDTV) so my card is probably not maxed out ... yet.

just an FYI, there are some settings of Hoss' conf that i tried, with unpleasant results.
the following 3 lines in his conf differ from mine:
Hoss: TexCompress=0                                  mine: 2
Hoss: TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=0           mine: 1
Hoss: TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=0               mine: 1

with only those three differences, i lose about 25-30% FPS while in cockpit, with a repeating sound stutter every few seconds. in external i lose about 10% fps.
reverting back to my original settings, and all is well again.
this is in no way a diss of Hoss's settings, but just to illustrate how the settings can have different results on different rigs.
my card is very modest, a GTS250 with 512MB - so, nothing too fancy, but i am very happy with the performance, especially on my new Win 7 OS.

My old laptop (I'm currently on a desktop) could handle the perfect settings, but it still had the "staircase" problem. So it isn't any better for taking screenies.

You mean the screenies have staircases ? Or the game itself ?

For the first, use PrtScreen function, like I do now, in DBW your screenies will be saved in a MyScreenshots folder
For the second, simply increase AntiAliasing.

Nvidia Card or ATI?

For Nvidia (thats what I have), right click on desktop, there should be Nvidia controlpanel. Open it, search for Antialiasing (you might need to change the mode) and increase the setting. Or you can download Nvidia Inspector, which will give you more options to tweak

For ati, it must be called CCC IIRC...not sure
