And remember that the Luftwaffev lost many aircraft to friendly fire-the AAA crews werent informed about Bodenplatte, and thus shot down many of their own aircraft!

So Monty-let me get this straight-you guys can play the Dunkirk missions without loosing effects/some frames? WTF super rig are you running! :D
My I7@4.5ghz/gtx580/16gb system looses prop disks/tracers when I tangle with the spits over Dunkirk.
I figured it was the old game limitations coming into effect-but if you say you run it all cranked up with gurners effects...how???!!! ???

So on the formations talk, didn't the VVS also use the vic? I mean didn't just about EVERYONE use the vic until they got slapped around by the Luftwaffe for a few years?

Monty I also noticed that you used a few wrong marks of Hurricane for the BoB. I changed the types/formation sizes in the missions if you want to take a look at them.

WTF super rig are you running! : - Not really a super rig but well suited to Il2 I think and gives me +60fps with everything maxxed:

I'm not using Gurner's effects at present, got full Plutonium though and will give Gurner's a full test later.

BTW: love to take a look at mission revisions how about email? SimonRead27@Yahoo.com

Ill shoot them your way later.
Gurners effects look great, but are incredibly heavy duty!

I normally get between 200-1000 fps, but gurners effects choke the ol game up!

Confirmed for me, FPS considerably reduced using Gurner's Effects, from +70fps over Dunkirk to less than 20fps!  ie: from super-smooth to choppy. Nice as it looks that is one package that's a 'Bridge Too Far' for me at the moment!

Well its not really a problem, just hitting the games limits!
Good to know its not just me though.

... well instead of not using Gurner's mod at all because of these fps drop issues, which is a real pity, may be you should consider using it but without all the java class files included in the mod ...

I know some effects will be missing, but trust me guys, better this than stock effects ...!!  ;)

This is what I've been doing for weeks, with no fps hit and very nice effects (running a 4.09 m version of the game) ...  :D

I tested this problem and you are right, this version of the Gurner FX mod kills the fps from 75 to 30 in my game(DBW-1916). Too many house fires in the view seem to cause this drop. After deleting these files in 4.3 (smoke view distance) the fps is a bit improved.

In my normal DBW I still use the 4.1 version, which is very fps friendly, you should try that one.

Cheers

vpmedia, I tried deleting the 3 java files you mentioned and that helped very much in  Gurner's DBW. 4.3 effects.....my frame rate went from 15 or 16 fps. to over 60 fps. and very smooth again, with little loss of effects......thankyou for that suggestion.......... ;)

vpmedia,
Can you upload v4.1 somewhere for download please.  I can't find it any longer.  I tried v4.2 but it slows me down to a crawl as does v4.3.

Whoah there dpeters95!  This is a campaign for Dark Blue World with the clean modding packs and numerous effects packages.  There ain't nothing stock about it!

Having said that, thanks for the tip on the classfiles vpmedia.  I'm trying that now because Gurner's effects do bring in a lot more content and look great!

True, but I have unloaded all of those add-on effects packages trying to get these missions to run smoothly.  Gurner v4.1 does work better for me but I still get a FPS drop occasionally during the mission.  I may have to try removing those classfiles next...

This is a complicated issue. Good FPS is not a simple thing to archieve in IL-2.

You need to consider:
-hardware
-AA & AF
-driver setup which u do in nvidia control panel
-conf.ini settings
-mod package
-effects package
-map
-mission

So it can happen that your hw and mod setup is ok, but the map has too many objects in a small area or the mission has too many chiefs or battleships or 100 bombers then your fps will drop to 10-20. Or the mission is ok but the effects package has smoke view distance not appropriate for your graphics card. (I use 10k smoke view distance which iirc is aprox. 3 times the stock distance). Hardware upgrade is usually the best way to solve fps issues.
