Hei Kilo
The Disident (Dizidentul) (the one which wouldn't start in front of Ceausescu) was number "222" not "205"

Err, uhm, I thougth that "The Dissident" was the general nickname for the Flogger. Didn't know the whole story at the time. My bad.

Nope "The Dissident" was the nickname of "222"

On a 23rd of August parade Ceausescu was on MK airfield (If I recall corectly). And some Mig-23 formations had to take of to amaze him (Mig-23 was the newest plane in the air force then, I think it was the first or second year after the first order of Mig-23 arrived) and this number "222" had 7 failed attempts to start the engine, right in front of Ceausescu. After the parade he told the pilot a joke about women (something like this "it's ok, not all of them start when you want"). Last flight of the "222" was made by a friend when he flew the plane from MK to Giarmata where the plane was "conserved" and still is today.

The problem is not with the 3d of this or similar aircraft with variable geometry, as there are already models in rough form in the game, but the issue is with the moving pylons mounted on the swept wings.

Pylons and ordnance etc in game have a fixed position and orientation in 3d space, so as the wing moves they remain static and end up floating outside of the wing.

This is a show stopper atm, but once this little issue is solved then I am sure there will be a raft of similar models attempted and even more requests posted.

G;

Mmmmmh... I do not think the MiG-23 has pylons under the wings... they are under the fuselage and under the not-moving part of the wings... or am I missing something ?

I think I may be mistaken about the ability to swivel, although both the MiG 23 and it's derivative the MiG 27 had a wet pylon mid wing, but you are right, the inboard pylon is fixed.

Anyway, I stand corrected ..  and I am sure one of our colleagues can fill in the blanks ...:-[    so therefore no reason not to model it without the outer pylon.....  or the MiG 27 either ;)

The outer pylons were only for DT's and... they were fixed. It was used only for ferry. ;)

Cheers...

btw... https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,37401.372.html <--- didn't touch it for a while, but I'll be sure to work on it from now on again. :)

The outer pylon was mounted only when it carried droptanks on the wings. And in that case the wings could be switched from 16degrees untill the droptanks were jettisoned, and Eastern Block countries, usually never jettison droptanks, so the whole flight usually was made with the wings on 16degress, that means the plane had to fly subsonic.
And in Romanian service flying with droptanks on the wings was extreamly rare (couldn't find any photos with them attached on the aircraft).

But they existed :)

ours once carried them when ferrying to england for a show :D but for combat they were never used. 16deg wings mean slow flight and low G-loads. So no go for combat use.

The only place in Europe where planes saw combat recently was in Yugoslavia

Airpolicing is also counted as combat sortie. ;) We even scored a shotdown here ;) MiG-15 bis downed an F-84.

1953 March 10: Two US Air Force F-84G Thunderjets of the 36 TFW, based in West Germany, crossed into Czechoslovakian airspace. They were intercepted by Czechoslovak MiG-15 Fagots and one F-84G was shot down by Jaroslav Sramek. The pilot, W. Brown, ejected and survived.
