Are Actual Squadron/Airfield codes actually possible?
« on: August 19, 2012, 12:40:44 PM »

Historically, at least for U.S. and British forces, different airfields and units had their own radio callsigns.

For example, Midway Island was famously given the callsign "Cactus", while VMF-214 had the callsign "Black Sheep" with Greg Boyington being "Black Sheep-1."

Anyhow, records of many of these callsigns exist and it would massively aid immersion and reduce confusing radio calls (i.e., "This is red-1" when there are 4 different "red" squadrons in the air) if they could be incorporated into the game.

I'm well aware of the massive amount of voice-recording work necessary, but I'm wondering if IL2 could even handle hundreds of different callsigns.
