What a cool film  8) I love guncam films! This is a cool one, but some of the
footage are completely mixed up. LOL
Some scenes are from other films and there
are some allied airplanes mixed in crashing against each other.

I hadnt seen the B25 crash landing before that was pretty cool, the Mustang collision is one thats often featured.

Except they aren't Mustangs. I've seen a longer version of that clip before. Don't recall the plane type but it's a little used attack type plane. Those planes were supposedly on a training mission.

You might be right, I've allways seen them reffered to as mustangs, looking at the clip closley they look more like P40s

I never knew that the USAAF used the Ju-87, but there it is at 0:33 on the tape! :)

I believe that the planes involved in the mid-air collision are Vultee Vengeances (A-31 or A-35).

Given the appearance of the trees and the terrain, plus the fact that the U.S. didn't use the A-31 or A-35 in combat, I'm almost certain the footage was shot someplace in North America. Probably a propaganda or training film gone horribly wrong.

Pity the frame rate isn't fast enough on that camera to get a better view, but look at the tails. I'm pretty sure those are Helldivers, if USAAF then they are A-25s, which they never used in combat, but did use in training, as small number. Or they could be Navy. The broad vertical stab is pretty much Helldiver, and I can see the long canopy in a few frames if you look at the AC in the foreground as it goes past. I'm pretty sure those are radial engines as they come in and as the foreground AC goes past. Also look at the wings, if you can see thru the blur; there's only a couple of frames that you can see them clearly.

I've looked at this film many times over the yrs trying to figure out what they are, as they are usually labeled as P-51s, which they obviously are not.

 >:( This is what comes of being a bit OCD about such things. I wish there were a complete source of the film, as I assume it shows them closer and in formation.

Thanks  Rjel, I knew I had seen that film footage before in a crazy old B-movie. I was right, it was Earth Versus
the Flying saucers. The only thing really memorable about the film is that air crash scene.
Very tragic air show. May they rest in peace.

One interesting thing is that crash scene has also appeared in numerous other B-movies as well as WW2
films and it actually doesn´t have anything to do with WW2. Even the very young Steven Spielberg has used the
scene for one of his first home-made short films when he was 12 or 14 years old... or was it George Lucas?
I can´t remember now, they are both good friends and have done WW2 short films when they were kids.

Original Helldiver crash footage

This is the clip I saw years ago. At least the longer crash footage. Pretty chilling, more so because we now know who the fliers were that died.
