Sikorsky R-4, UH-1 and H-34
« on: September 20, 2012, 07:14:45 PM »

This would be nice, considering the amount of work too get a "Chopper" into the sim.
I know of a couple of "Mission Builders"who would love this  !!

Different model, the H-34 is more powerful and has a low tail configuration  ;)

I've seen a UH-1 model around here, not sure what happened to that...

I will defenitly cast my vote for a Bell UH-1 Iroquois "Huey". That would make any Vietnam map/missions much
more complete.
Even if they would be as AI, it would be good to see,
as you could fly an aircraft coming to their rescue in the jungle.

Hi, max. I took a spin in one in the mid 70s. They vibrate in the same direction as the rotor blades spin. The NZ army still use them.

cheers

If someone does make the Huey and the Huss, would it be possible to be a door gunner?

+1 for the R-4 for WW2 channel 'rescue' styled recon missions.. UH-1 for '66 (...& for LAN air racing Mil-8's on Pillars of Hercules; for those who have a working DBW and LAN mates - not to be confussed with Landmates, I wish...)

H-34 would be very useful for late 50s early 60s cold war scenarios as well. When I was 6 yrs old (in 63) My late Dad was a civilain contract instructor at Ft. Rucker in South Alabama. One of his friends (a former 8th AF P-51 pilot) decided one day to beat up our house (well out in the sticks by the woods) in an H-34, and those things are very loud; they tend shake stuff off of shelves also, the huge radial engine (I think that's what it was) sounded like a formation of B-29s flying overhead with the wop wop wop added.

He then proceeds to hover in ground effect over the large bean field about 70 meters away. I was totally fascinated, as I was outside with my mattel tommy burst (thompson) waging one of many wars. Talk about special effects  ??? . I can still see that so clearly. That was the most exciting thing to happen in Enterprise Ala until a  couple of yrs later, when some kid brought a WW2 Frag grenade to class. Was very interesting living on an Army base in the 60s.

I have always loved those Sikorsky birds since. The Brits also used the turbine version heavily in the Falklands methinks.
