F-86D Sabre Dog in Yugoslavian Colors
« on: September 27, 2012, 05:04:12 AM »

One of many paradoxes of the post WWII Yugoslavia was being the only eastern European country that called itself communist, but wasn’t the part of Warsaw pact, and furthermore it was receiving western military support. Yugoslavia was called “east for the west, and west for the east”

As such, the Yugoslav Air Force in fifties, and sixties managed to paint red stars on some very advanced flying machines from the American inventory of the day. The last in the line of western fighter jets sent to Yugoslavia was F-86D, Sabre Dog. It remained in Yugoslav service until the 1970s, and for a while it flew together with MiG-21. This was a unique occurrence in the world.

I think it will be a great skin for our favorite game :) The shark paint on the noise of the F-80C is just wonderful and very agressive :) If someone can make this one in HD colour ( or not ), I thank him.

Thank you again skinners :)

I can say something about this matter, as my father had a very active and I would dare to say "pivotal" part in the whole "affair" of selling US planes to Yugoslavia.
During the late fifties and early sixties he was one of the small team of US pilots sent to Yugoslavia to perform demonstration flights for the Yugoslav high brasses... :)
I remember him telling me how he met Marshal Tito during an official ceremony, and about how strong was "Rakija", a locally produced type of liquor or "agua ardiente"...

Really ? Thank you Col. King for sharing this story with us :) It's incredible. Now I can't wait to have this skin !

I know the Rakija, and yes it's very strong. It's like the Serbian Slivovica. Very strong but it give you courage and strong :p

Well, there is going to be a bit of a problem here, because of the radome. You see, the radome is NOT part of the template. It is a seperate .tga file and is black. In order to do the skin above, you need to change the color of the radome file and then every other F-86D and K in the game, regardless of skin, will have a blue radome. However, if you don't mind that, then I'm sure someone will be willing to make the skin.

Oh I didn't know about the radom. It's not a problem for me if the radome stay black. Maybe the skinner can make a special blue skin for the radome to work with the Yugoslavian skin, and that we can change the color when we want. Like the  wingtips of the F-80.

That's a sharp looking model! Did you make it? Who is the manufacturer and what scale? Superb!

I would also like to use this skin.

Hi guys,

Here is a link to the skin pack I did for the F86K when it was first released as a stand alone. I think it has something similar to the one you want.  ;)
