NOW THIS IS A BIG ASK  ??? But it's more than just that it is an inquirery, a serious question!

Over the years there has been a lot of discussion amongst mapmakers as to the possibilities of opening up more areas into mapbuilding, time and again there has been talk about having more textures slots and reducing the size of the grid mesh upon which maps are made and various other possibilities. There have been many advances in mapbuilding the most recent being the 2048 x 2048 texture mod by Carsmaster and even the possibilty of advancing on that.....it's a huge leap forward and will pay dividens in the near future with some specatular looking maps.

What i want to know is despite all of the discussion over the years on opening up the mapbuilding process and creating new texture slots....has anybody ever tried? is there anybody out there with the knowledge who is willing to try? what would this involve is there any hope? this is the Holy Grail and should we discover it then the many talented mapmakers amongst us can bring you some truly spectacular pieces of art and a realism to match the fantastic 3d and texture work that we now find on planes.

I don't know what this would require to seek this Holy Grail, jave coding? the game codes perhaps? maybe it can't be done, do the road all rail textures really need all of those slots? can we free some up? is there anything that can be done?

So my request is regarding the questions above is has anybody ever seriously tried? and is there a genius amongst us who is willing to carve a name for himself in IL-2 history and have a serious look at this for us, it is an area that has been talked about all to often, now we need some action.

Boomer seems to a lot about the maps end of the game. Maybe pm him. I was impressed with your posts years ago of how you got two of my shallows texures to show up at once. How did you do that? I agree, we need an update to the map making side of the game. For without maps what will they fly their fancy planes over? :) The "grid" needs help. Its what makes it hard to texture a map without the dreaded tile effect. I hope someone will answer your qestions and help us out.

That shallows texture thing was incredibly difficult, we have two kinds of underlying water tiles one for the beach shoreline and one for riverland, somehow i managed to convert the riverland tile into another beach shoreline tile and so we could have two seperate shallows offshore under the sea, i was then able to use different RBG scales to colour the rivers whatever colour i liked......however all of that work was lost in a major computer malefunction and i never returned to trying it again because of the amount of work that it took. It would need starting from scratch and if i remember rightly was something that had to be applied right at the very begining of building a completely new map from scratch, it was the very first stage in the map creation.

I have always meant to explore this again but never gotten round to it.
