They should look pretty much like the dirt/mud that got them rusted and weathered.  It's bad when they stick out like a sore thumb.............  the edges should disappear in places as it sinks into the terrain.  Patches should look a bit newer when it's repaired from bomb craters, Pictures of Pacific strips almost look as if there is no matting there at all... that would be tricky for modders to replicate, unless you make the dirt/mud just a shade off from the matting.

Cheers.

My dad served in the Pacific as ground crew. He once told me that soon after the matting was laid down the dirt, sand, mud, ground coral dust, etc., would work it's way up through the holes and pretty much blend it in visually with the ground.

Well, after a few attempts to get a better or different texture to no avail. I guess I'll pull this thread. The one I started with, I had no idea someone had already done it. I tried to get a few different textures and they looked good from above but they were too blurry on the ground next to the plane. I tried several but none looked good close up.

I have been trawling through years of accumulated downloads to see if I can find the original texture files for the images I show above, sorry it has take so long but I'm having problems with my connection out here in the wilds of West England today, the beggars keep disconnecting me.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure they came from the up_objects01.sfs pack, so here is a link to the bit that contains the matting textures, I think I may have altered some of the texture files in here already and I cannot find the original but I hope it helps.

I know that I would sacrifice another one of my Mother's cats to you guys if we could have access to matt parking areas in the FMB. Lone runways with no parking areas just don't look right. Even one like the ones built into the maps would be nice as an object or application to add to the runways.
