Ship with heli deck

I thought that for the cold war/jet era scenarios could be useful to have a ship with helicopter deck;
something like this:



in my experiment I added the final part of the deck of a light carrier to the HMSFiji, but:
-in FMB you can't create a take off waypoint on ship (it's not a carrier)
-the helicopter doesn't touch deck, it is suspended of 50cm/1meter (no success also adding hooks of light carrier hulls)
-it is possible to land on the deck, but there's no heli shadow

so I wondered if a ship maker could modify an existing vessel and make a ship with helicopter deck... :)

The older folks here may or may not remember me requesting something like this some years ago.

Your "experiment" is about a gozillion times farther I ever got in my own experiments.
I think there is a property in ships.ini like IsCarrier 1 , or something to that effect.
Also, I think for spawning and therefore starting a mission on it, it needs 6 hooks in a rectangle - i forgot their names but this knowledge I gained from this forum so it is around somewhere. Right now, however, I don't have time to search.

I greatly like this request.

Search for Flak's Assault Ship mod, that is an LPD which has a helipad. He built it to compliment his helicopters IIRC.

Perhaps the answer lies there  ;)

Helideck is similar to a normal carrier deck.

You need to enable IsAirport in ships.ini

Then you need:
 _rwy hook  // height of this dictates spawn height of aircraft
_park hooks   (x6  -- these dictate the plan position of the spawning aircraft.

Copy these from the hull msh files of an existing carrier.

Also need:
collision box -- located below the spawn point. When you release chocks it will fall until it rests on the collision box. If it floats above the deck then the collision box is too high.

For deck shadows you need ShdwRcv1.msh --- see existing carrier models.

For an experiment just use parts from an existing carrier, but for an authentic model you need to work in Max to create the meshes and export.

Gosh, it would be awesome to have postwar modifications of ingame ships with helipads. Keep us up to date on this awesome work.

Ashe,

If one enabled IsAirport in the ships.ini file for any ship, would that allow that particular ship to be designated as a moving home base? To try to make myself a bit more clear, I was wondering if a modder enabled this for the seaplane tender in the game, not the stationary one which is already an airfield, but the AVP xxx Hulbert, the moving ship. If it were done to that one, could we then attach a home base object to it in order to allow air spawns of seaplanes from it as it moves along?
