"The Last Gasp" Ta 152H v Tempest V
« on: November 24, 2012, 10:24:58 PM »

Heres my take on the famous encounter between the Stab of Jg301 and 486 Sqn (NZ)

Willi Reschke entered a low level dogfight in which he bettered W/O O.J.Mitchell, in a turn fight the rookie Kiwi was no match for the German ace and after taking hits Mitchell stalled his aircraft and hit the ground.

The smoke and flames are more for effect than accuracy.

Mostly actuating and anchoring pivots for the flaps and alierons, the 190As and D's were similar.

thanks

Cheers guys, theres another Tempest one I'm planning to do, the Great uncle of a guy I fly with got a half share of a 109 late in the war and I just need to find info on what unit the 109 came from before I can start.

Ironicly another guy we fly with, his Great uncle was W/O Mitchell who's demise was depicted above.

Well that research was interesting, 2nd TAF Vol 3 showed no losses for 109s in that area but both III./Jg54 and I./Jg26 were operating in the area in Fw190D's on the 23rd.

A look into EE's Fw 190D loss list shows only one pilot KIA by Tempests of an unknown unit in the area

W.Nr.120121 "Black 11" 10./Jg54 flown by Uffz. Gunther Langer KIA "near Haaksbergen"

So theres a pretty solid lead on who thw victim was
