I agree with both Ice and Max.
 :D

Our cockpits are simply wonderful. There is no other functional WW2 sim that even compares to the detail and hard work put into the pits we have. Just drop dead gorgeous.

At the same time the pits are about the only thing fail over dover has going for it.
I'm sure everyone knows my opinion of CoD, BravoFxTrt even sent me the cease and desist threat that I shall be nice (lie) about CoD, say nothing at all about its monumental failure, or be banned. But fact is its a new sim and the pits are just amazing, especially being fully click-able (weather or not all the buttons function correctly or at all is another discussion).
I would LOVE to see what our cockpit artists could do with it, if it was even worth modding.

I would love to see what you could do with CoD. Currently you seem to be the non plus ultra of cockpit repaints.
Too bad its not worth your time! :D

...I am very surprised that nobody mentioned Freddy ...

He is the very first one who made modded cockpits for our sim, not just repaints but right from scratch, and the whole range of Bf 109s to begin with ...

All current Bf 109 cockpits, like Der Wüstenfuchs and Greif's one for ex, are repaints of his work ...

Then he made, still from scratch (except a few borrowings for the P47), the P51 D and then B/C, and then the P47D25

He has just completed a totally new and 3D Bf 109 G2/G4 fully active cockpit (not a clickable one, it uses keyboard keys) that will be released with next version of Histomod

Here are the instructions for use, with a few glimpses of the cockpit:

http://www.histomod.fr/Check_109.7z

He also then intends to make the Spit, P51, P47 and FW190 series ...  ;)

Speaking as just one of the other "schmucks", I would have to agree with Max. There is some incredible work done here and the old girl scrubs up real pretty for her age. I also think that should dynamic real time lighting ever be acheived then we would be in for cockpit visuals that would raise the bar yet AGAIN!

I have learned to stop saying that things are impossible in IL-2, as the talented pool of modders seem to be capable of **nearly** anything! :) Long may that continue.

Shame he doesn't (or sometimes want) make/convert them for Sas modact, ultra pack and DBW, as he doesn't seem to like ultra pack much :( but of course I still love his cockpits, just wish he didn't not like the other mod packs just because he thinks they don't give il-2 any improvements.

Don´t worry Kaxii, enjoy what you have now, its still a great flying pleasure to have what we have now in
this game at the moment. Perhaps one day, he will return, it is his decision, we cannot force him to. Everyone
has diferent things in life that are most important to each of us.
This is just a hobby to add a little more pleasure to our lives.
If it paid very good $$$€€€, then it would be perfect and we could be doing this everyday. Since its
not, no one has a contract to adhere to, or create/paint anything just because others want it. For all we know many
great modders and artists out there in this world have their games completely changed with their superb personal
creations and they have never shared those things with anyone. So what you really see here in this and many other forums
on IL2 mods, is just a little ice-cube on top of a very large iceberg  ;D
... and for me its good enough. I can make sweet ice-cream out of this little ice-cube we already have.

Indeed he now might be making the Bf-109 pits from scratch, but his previous efforts were repaints. Sure he might have altered .mat files but at the end of the day they were repaints. Quite a few other artists used his repaints as a base to start theirs but can tell you now they expanded significantly on what he had. Same story goes for the P-47, P-51 and Fw-190 pits. I am not trying to stir, but he can not take credit for the 3D on these pits when he did not make them. They are still the 1C:Maddox meshes and not his.

Credit where credit is due. That said, his Sabre, Panther and MiG pits were great and everyone here is looking forward to his 'scratch-built' Bf-109s.

P.S. I do have to say, after going through the readme for his new 109 pits, they sound absolutely amazing and hats off to Freddy for implementing all those features.

The cockpit re-paints available by modders at this site and others are incredible and are all time consuming works of art - making IL2 more enjoyable -

I guess what I intended to say when I started this thread
is that the basic light and dynamic shadows in CoD imparts more
reality into the pilot experience that the actual cockpit appearance - the hooks needed to shoot the sunlight thru the canopy and across the leading edges
of the instruments and switches in CoD cockpits is something that we need in IL2, or there must be a serious collective
effort to bring the CoD game to heel -

In other words , if the IL2 Mod community is bumping up against the design limits/capabilities of the code in IL2
then other than maps, missions, skins, new Fm's, new plane templates, IL2 is maxed out.

... well who knows, maybe one or two guys are curently looking for those dynamic light lines in IL2 code, if they exist that is, but this is for sure a very long process, especially if you don't even know if this is coded in java, or Dll or whatever ...  ;)

TD team said that the light and shadows effects are possible in the IL-2 1946 and they know how to do it, but the main problem was that they will need to remake all cockpits and this is near impossible.
